I read some Josh Pate stuff last week. He’s pulling the fire alarm and saying we could have roster destruction and reconstruction going on. Could see some teams decimated. Oh boy.
I do honestly wonder how many solid, SEC quality veterans will be beaten out in the spring and then decide to test their luck in the instant starter escape pod (AKA the TP). The prognosis is for a heady brew of fresh horror mixed with hilariously stupid BS - across the board, with no one being spared. I can hardly wait.
Worst case scenario is lots/most of starters looking for raises every chance they get becoming the norm
Agreed, but FTR; I believe that falls under the heading of "on-going fresh horrors" in the upcoming NIL induced fiasco for the ages. That is not to suggest that idiotic BS won't drop by for a little visit now and again as well.
He didn’t say it could happen, he said it’s going to happen. The extent is his only question. Are we buyers or getting stripped down was the question I formed while listening to his podcast.
No one is immune to listening when offered a 50% raise. It’s going to be chaos. Hopefully we are out in front of this. We haven’t looked proactive over the last decade. We all know it’s about to happen so hopefully we are big players instead of out roster getting picked over. It’s not my money so I won’t bitch to much but I will be disappointed I guess.
Is this what the real message meant when the conference thought up the slogan "The SEC, it just means more $$$."
Who would we likely lose: Transfers, no. Players getting serious rotation in our two deep, no. Players who might through back channels receive an "NIL" offer significantly greater? Possibly.
Would like to view Etienne as an anomaly and the condition of team spirit end of season probably contributed to his departure. I do not see our RBs transferring. Really excited to see our FR RBs contribute later in the season. Don't see DL or DBs that have potential leaving, same for LB. OL? nah. WR? I don't see us losing would be starters. If a few "lesser" guys decide to leave, so be it. But it seems that transferring then arriving on another campus in May puts a player behind those that have been in the system. Good luck to any player that departs. Does Pate know something the rest of us do not? I wouldn't think so.
Players who are starters on teams will get very large offers from other teams, and they will listen. Not too many people in this world don’t listen when money is involved.
