In fairness it’s one of the largest, and is highly visited due to the many natural attractions. Florida is the second most visited state BTW.

The natural attractions are a big driver of that not the government.

    Californication:

    Manufacturing Output: 1st
    Agricultural Output: 1st
    Tax Rate-1st (highest)
    Cost of Living: 3rd
    Median Home Price: 3rd
    Median Household Income: 5th
    Median Per Capita Income: 1st
Primary education: ~40th (depends on who is ranking)
State Public University/College System: ~1st, ~5th, ~7th (depends on who is ranking)
*Personal biased opinion--CA has the best public U systems in the country.

Grew up and went to college in NY (~27 years) and have lived for at least two years in CT, IL, FL, & VA, and for the past decade, in CA. To be completely honest, CoL is tougher in CA compared to when we lived in other states (leaving aside current inflation issues), however, in some ways, it's tough to compare. State income & property taxes def affect us, but our household income is nearly 3x what it was than when we lived in VA and we are in a more expensive home. Plus, we rented while in FL (@ UF), and when I was in NY in college. Both cheap student housing, yet we also had a meager hh income.

CA is an incredible place to live in many respects, and at the same time, has issues beyond CoL (urban/sururban sprawl, traffic, wildfires). To respond directly to the rw caricature, it's no where near the commie hellhole you all make it out to be. I'd add that if I had to do it over again, I probably wouldn't have moved here...not because of any of the drawbacks (other than wildfires!), it's simply because I have an east coast bias and miss it badly.

See my numerous posts on the subject while McD the corporation is having record profits they are not the ones paying the store workers and get the vast majority of their income from franchise fees and lease fees.
The average store makes about 150k/ year.

    From the article:

“It wasn’t immediately clear whether the new wage requirements were a factor in the move, but the notifications said the companies “made a business decision to eliminate first party delivery services and as a result the elimination of all delivery driver positions.”

So customers will now have to order exclusively from third party services like door dash or Uber eats and likely end up paying even more for their pizza than they would have paid had the drivers been kept in the first place, yet get shittier service. Brilliant business move by these franchisees.

The choice was to pay more money themselves, raise prices or fire them. They chose to fire the employees.

I know. And by using outside delivery services exclusively, they probably raised prices on the customer anyway. So the best interest of the customer had nothing to do with their decision to fire all their drivers, even though that's how they fashioned it "by not wanting to raise prices"

Disagree, they are only raising prices for those who are too lazy to go pick it up. Keeps prices low for those who get take out.

California needs to raise school employee salaries and quick, because the school system (cafeteria workers, janitors, etc.) is now competing with fast food chains. However, with the current budget crunch for the state, that may not be possible. Time to raise taxes.

California schools forced to compete with fast food industry for workers after minimum wage hike

I don’t get the logic of raising the minimum wage for just one sector. This is what happens.

I didn't realize this increase in minimum wage was just for fast food workers. If so, that is just stupid.

The law reflected a carefully crafted compromise between the fast food industry and labor unions, which had been fighting over wages, benefits and legal liabilities for close to two years. The law originated during private negotiations between unions and the industry, including the unusual step of signing confidentiality agreements, KCRA 3 first reported.

California $20 fast food minimum wage begins. What to know

You're ignoring all of the other business decisions that go into using a 3rd party delivery service as opposed to employees for that purpose.

You can continue to make excuses but to think this wouldn’t have a big impact is rather naive.

Curious. How is paying poor people more money bad for poor people?

You sure about that? Let me give you a business problem:

Would you rather employ 2 people at $22 or 3 people at $15?

Answer: Trick question. I’d hire 2 people at $15.

No one hires the number of people based on their pay. It either takes 2 people to make a taco or 3. No business employs extra people just because. If you can automate a job, you automate a job. Period.
