I understand to some degree, but how do we stay in top 10 ? Not sure we are in top 20 … very disappointing weekend… Cld have positioned ourselves a lot better with a sweep of a 1 win SEC team
This is the SEC. There are no bad teams and you better bring your A game every time out or risk losing. We ain't doin' it.
For everybody that talks about the pitching. I would disagree 100%. Our pitching has been excellent this weekend. Neely and Peterson were very good. We should have put 6-7 on the board today but we don’t bunt and move runners over. Our approaches at the plate have been abysmal. Garrison needs to be our catcher and we need to rethink how we approach at bats. Remember, they moved runners over in the first inning with a solid sacrifice bunt, and it gave them two runs. We chose not to, and we struck out, and did not move runners over This is not pitching,
I’m fine with our pitching it has been excellent. This is the SEC. You have to swing the bat and not try to always sit home runs. Sometimes that means we have to piece together runs and scrap and claw
Horrible series loss. The will tumble out of the top 10. Finally get some decent pitching and they don't hit. Better tighten up
Yet another display of how not to play baseball! Awful performance. Or, lack thereof! Bad base running. Two runs given away on wild pitches! Like Casey Stengel said more than once, “most games are lost, not won!”
I’m not going to go so far as to say the game scares’em—but our guys need a hard reset. You can’t run excuses up the flagpole when you’re not playing the game the right way. Focus, drive, intensity, desire all have to be in question. It’s been a while since I’ve seen anyone want it more than our team. That is hard for me to post. I have never known the word intimidated to be in our dugout, but that seems to be in play—I hate it and hope that they can rectify our issues sooner rather than later.
Well Peterson probably had his best outing today and that is something to build on, but still gave up 4 runs in 6 inn. Normally that could be winning #s but it's certainly not excellent in my book. As for tomorrow I have confidence in Cags not so much the freshmen. Good news is Mizzou is the worst hitting team in the conference, so can't help them out, no walks, no WPs, no errors.. And yea, we have lost 2 1 run games because we are not hitting and K'ing way too much. That's an easy call.
Well, even with the midweek losses piling up, we could always point to winning all of our series and some of those being huge wins over the likes of LSU, TAMU and MSU, but this unravels all of that. I'd rather lose the midweek game to FAMU than lose this series to an awful Mizzu team. This is not good and it amplifies the midweek losses.
How much truth is there to the adage--playing at the level of your competition? The good teams we did well--not so much yesterday and today. Also, how much does the turf field impact things?
I personally think if you play hard every pitch every out, every inning things will take care of itself Most people on this forum think we are incredibly talented . We are not . We have a super star and a couple pitchers that are pretty good but other than that eh !
Someone earlier referenced Casey Stengel... well one of his most memorable quotes in later years … " can't anybody here play this game"? I would extend that one to say- “can't anyone here coach a baseball team”? After the Cags 2-run shot to take a 3-2 lead, why would Sully not take Peterson out and have him feel confident about his gutsy outing on the road? Well because Sully shot the load last night using his top Pen guys in the same game: Neely, Fisher, McNeiily and there was nothing left in the tank. We can discuss the talent level with the bat as well, but once the lead was in hand with a still developing standout freshmen- save his psyche and confidence. Another loss to a Q3 team and the RPI is plummeting but more importantly – your young standout with the stuff to get out there vs SEC and who will get you wins down the stretch or next year....
I’m telling ya this series loss might just wreck this season . Just don’t have the players. Got a superstar but after that
I agree, this series loss to an average Mizzou team may be a dagger unless we rally with the kids- McNeilley and Peterson getting their mojo but... it still leaves the feeble offense, average defense, poor spead and simply a lack of leadership on the field. I hate to say it, but this team reminds me of the 2019 and 2021 teams that made the post season but got bounced in the Regionals. I hope I'm wrong.
