A Group of mostly White, Suburban Phoenix Area Kids Charged with Murder

What does race have to do with it? Look at the board? We get reports of plenty of African American crime in places like Chicago. And if an undocumented immigrant, likely Hispanic, commits a crime, it's big news. I was just wondering if suburban white on white crime was as reported and as big a news. And if the white on white crime is not, why is that?

 

Show Low is a town in the NE part of Arizona in the White Mountains. It's about 3 hours from Phoenix, and generally 30 degrees cooler, since it's at around 7000 feet above sea level. The area is generally known as Show Low/Pinetop, since the two towns make up the area, and there are about 30,000 residents of the town. But Memorial Day or 4th of July, there can be 4X the amount of people there, as people from Phoenix and Tucson go to escape the heat. Winter, there is a very good ski area (Sunrise Park) about 30 minutes away.

And yes, we haven't had a Chicago African American crime thread in a while. Maybe because major crime rates in Chicago are actually decreasing? But we definitely hear about every immigrant committing some sort of crime.

 

About 90 minutes east on Route 260 from Payson. Nice drive, but the nicer drive from the Phoenix area is go East on the US 60 and follow that all the way up (take a left in Globe). You go through the Salt River Canyon.



And again, we haven't had a conversation about AA crime come up recently, but anyone who has been on this board have seen threads about Chicago violence, or racial overtones when it comes to policing the AA community. And certainly, we read about every major crime committed by an undocumented immigrant. I was truly curious if people outside of Arizona had heard about case, and/or the name Preston Lord?

 

All hail 95, who has claimed there is no longer racism against AA in the US because GatorCountry Too hot hasn't had a AA violence thread in six months!!! But racism against Hispanics is still a thing, I guess?

 

I have no issue removing undocumented immigrants who have committed felony crimes or have a criminal record. We have no need to import more criminals; we already have plenty here. But if an immigrant is doing a job, staying out of trouble, and supporting his/her family, why deport them? Especially if the job were to go unfilled after the deportation, or at best, be taken up by another immigrant?

As for what the police should have done is investigate the beatings before someone got killed. But between parents, school officials, city officials including police, and others, these kids were protected, and someone did get killed. Maybe nothing would have changed? Maybe not. But for sure, if you allow kids to keep pushing the limit, they will. Push back, and maybe you have a chance for a better outcome.

 

I'll revise the statement. If an undocumented immigrant is here, staying out of trouble, and working, no need to deport them. Especially if the job is either going to go unfilled after deportation, or just taken up by another undocumented immigrant. Why spend the money to deport the person? Who benefits?
