When people don't use logic just laugh at them and move on. I do it with many posters on here who refuse to use common sense. It's like people yelling for a ceasefire. Well, the only ones who would actually honor a ceasefire are the Non-terrorists. Any ceasefire without the release of all hostages is a non-starter for Israel.

I have flushed a number of members who regularly post mindless, meaningless pablum over the past two months (including effectively ignoring two admins) and the relative quality of information on THFSG has increase tremendously. What a difference.

Not emotional at all. Practical is my approach and should be yours also. In fact, if you look back through my post history, you'll see I've been very critical of the Biden administration's approach to Iran and I've also called on Israel to divert their efforts in Gaza to Iran. You will get no disagreement from me whatsoever that Iran was behind the Oct 7th massacre. What drives me up the wall is that Israel will inflict all of this carnage on Gazans, but will do nothing to Iranians. Frankly, it's like they are being told what they can and can't do. An attack on Iran would lead to a major war in the middle east, we all know that. But picking on Gaza isn't going to fix the root issue. That's been a major beef of mine since all of this began.

You'll remember when Trump took out Soleimani, the establishment went on about WW3 etc etc. Iran are bullies and did essentially nothing over Soleimani. A few rockets lobbed into Iraq is not a response for taking out a nation's #2. Especially in light of what the Houthi proxies have done in the past few months. I don't care what anybody says, thawing $6 billion in oil assets for Iran was an idiotic thing to do. The U.S. leads on all of this. They tell Israel what they can and cannot do. They tell Ukraine what they can and cannot do. This disaster is at the feet of the Biden administration. That is not me on an election rant. That is me recognizing that Washington is calling all the shots in all of this. Including the mass murder of tens of thousands of Palestinians, which is why they are showing up at his rallies and protesting his every appearance.

So your contention is Israel should pull back, then what about the 5 US hostages still held by Hamas? Just write them off? How come we haven't gotten them back? Why hasn't Biden told Hamas release the US hostages or we will keep supplying Israel and won't support a ceasefire(Hamas has rejected every ceasefire offered anyways)?

Because Hamas wants Israel to continue bombing. Hamas wins the PR war if Israel keeps bombing. As to your initial question, the US should do exactly what I propose Israel should do and that is to focus our effort on the source. The source is Iran. You can weed eat your flower beds, the weeds will simply grow back within days. Or you can pull the weeds and see much better results. Hitting Hamas is pretty useless. Iran will simply deploy a new proxy or replace the dead Hamas with new recruits. Also, hitting Hamas is setting Israel up for future terror. Do you think Palestinians care much at this stage if Israel bombs Iran, especially if that means ceasing fire in Gaza? Probably not.

Hmmm... do we have any experience to draw upon when it comes to negotiating the release of hostages with the Iranian regime?

USMC, do you have any idea why the US isn't trying to get the US Hostages back from Hamas? Any idea why Biden hasn't publicly called for Hamas to release the US hostages? I mean we have this from Biden in November but he seems to not care anymore. Crazy.

By Biden, you mean Jake Sullivan? I'd be speculating, but if I had to guess, Sullivan is hoping that by placating the Iranians, he can extend their countdown to nuclear launch capability. Hope is a great strategy, especially in that region of the world. What could possibly go wrong?

This is my guess. If Biden kept highlighting that Hanas has US hostages there would be a lot of pressure to get them out and rightfully so. Think Iranian Hostage Crisis in 1980. Then there would be pressure to use American Military Hostage Recuse Forces to go in since that is a core capability they have. And it is a given that Hamas will not release them in a separate deal with the US. So US Special Ops folks would have to go into Israel and try to operate interoperability with the IDF and then the US has entered the war on the side of Israel. The juice likely would not be worth the squeeze on that one since I don’t think our Special Ops folks are going to be able to do a better job operating in that scenario than Israel’s Special Ops, especially the IDF’s own backyard.

I suppose they could try and do it off a CSG instead of from Israel but they would still have to deconflict with the Israelis and the US would still be entering the war against Hamas.

I’m positive they are at the top of the Israeli’s intel requirements when it comes to the hostages whereabouts.

This is the least bad option when all you have is bad options.

Another option would be for Biden to say that his admin will fully back Israel’s operations until Hamas releases the US hostages but then Hamas would want the US to force Israel into a ceasefire in return. I don't think the Biden Admin wants to back themselves into a corner like that.

Biden could say there will be zero chance for a ceasefire until all hostages are released and that we will back Israel until they do release them. We are now playing politics with the hostages as the bait and we are playing right into what Hamas wants. Hamas wants global pressure on Israel to stop the fight without the release of hostages. Israel's tragic error of bombing aid workers was a huge issue(rightfully so) and now I don't see Hamas agreeing anytime soon to any ceasefire that also calls for the release of all hostages.

Iran has sent its ship back home out of fear of Israel repercussions. I am willing to bet that the houthi attacks will not be greatly reduced without the targeting data that the ship was providing it.

Suspected Iranian spy ship sails for home, leaving troubled waters as Tehran braces for Israeli retaliation (msn.com)

The MV Behshad's return to Iran comes as the country braces for possible Israeli retaliation over Tehran's unprecedented missile and drone attack on Israel last weekend.

The vessel has been at sea for nearly three years and spent several months earlier this year lingering near Yemen. But on Wednesday, it was seen sailing in the Gulf of Oman off Iran's coast, and it crossed the strategic Straight of Hormuz early on Thursday, according to ship tracking data reviewed by Business Insider.

The Behshad's destination is listed as the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas on MarineTraffic.com, and the latest tracking data from Thursday afternoon local time shows that the vessel is in the general vicinity of the city.

Though it left its position near Yemen earlier this month, the Behshad did not broadcast its location until a few days ago, when it appeared on ship tracking sites off the coast of Iran, according to Bloomberg, which first reported on the vessel's movement.

Explosions at army base near Isfahan hosting nuclear enrichment facility within Iran. No idea if the enrichment facility was the target. Reports are that strike was not against a nuclear facility

Israel committing stupidity. Market is going to crash tomorrow...getting real tired of Israel taking our support for granted and ignoring our input. there was no reason for Israel to respond, simply stopping all of Iranian attack was enough of a message.

not sure if this is from planes or missiles yet but Iran had no way to stop it

Wonder what airspace Israel used to launch the attack?

@uftaipan could Israeli safely overfly Syria and Iraq without their permission or risk?
