Does Ollie manage to get a tenure-track job? How many postdocs does it take? ;)

That’s a horrible looking stock chart. My charting says it’s headed to $100. That represents another 40% drop in market cap. What once was a $1T company will be a $300B company by the end of the year. The cyber truck is just another example of his ineptness.

Musk should stay in the idealization and actualization business and stay far away from managing the companies he starts.

I keep seeing Musk has caused "reputational damage" to Tesla headlines in the financial news... I know a few liberal / environmentalist types (the people you'd think would be Telsa #1 target) that have sworn off Tesla due to many factors, but Musk's behavior is one of them. In fact, this article says a survey or 5000 Tesla owners says Musk's behavior is the #1 reason people are selling their Tesla, they are embarrassed to drive it...

A survey conducted by Bloomberg of 5,000 Model 3 owners revealed "disapproval of Elon Musk" as the top reason for selling their Teslas. Musk’s frequent voicing of political and social views, along with sharing controversial theories, has led to a change in perception, particularly among politically left-leaning individuals. Musk reportedly dismissed the claims.

I've seen one cyber truck in the wild, and comically, it was parked at a business that does "autowraps", probably someone trying to prevent the unfinished metal from rusting.

I saw one next to a 911 Dakar. Two absurb vechicles except that if you take the rack and gasoline container off the roof it’s still a pretty good sports car.

There’s different types of alloys used. This is also why some kitchen utensils might get rust spots even if they are “stainless steel”. There’s different grades of stainless steel with different properties. The crappy 18/0 stuff will rust if left exposed to water.

Everything about that truck is bizarre. I wonder if they used a cheaper alloy? Not sure what benefit the steel was supposed to offer, but if it’s corroding already somebody made a big boo-boo.

I would assume the mixed alloy is an attempt to lighten the vehicle (and lower costs)?

Same. I was eyeballing the ioniq 5.
Keep on waiting for better range but not sure why, I rarely need range.

It's also true that cheap stainless steal can also be magnetic. I read one theory that it may not be the actual body rusting, but instead magnetic iron particles in water sticking to the body when the water dries, and then those particles are rusting. Apparently, the rust stains can be buffed out, so that supports that theory, I think.

I’m no materials engineer, but everything I read about it indicated the use of stainless steel ADDED weight compared to a more normal stamped steel w/paint or if they wanted to go lighter they could have use something more “exotic” and expensive like carbon fiber or aluminum which is already used to lighten vehicles (at a premium).

Seems like it was mostly aesthetics of making it a cyberpunk quasi futuristic vehicle. I mean the damn thing is called Cybertruck lmao.

The cyber truck is the epitome of what Elon has turned into the last few years. He took a well thought of brand and turned it into a terrible offering that few are interested in.

By turning hard right he's turned off the majority of his market for EVs. Maga ain't buying a Tesla. Now lefties aren't buying a tesla. Just terrible business

I got one of those in September. It is a really nice car so far. Range isn't bad. Check Electrify America for chargers on any long routes that you would regularly take.

Quite the reversal. It was foundational for his vision of Twitter X at his takeover. I continue to believe he has no idea what to do with Twitter and will go down as one of the biggest business mistakes in history.
