The body camera video shows her opening a sealed bottle of alcohol, pouring some of it out, and then throwing it back in the car. In the arrest affidavit, an officer cited the open bottle of alcohol as evidence that the driver committed a DUI.

    There's video in this tweet:

Tallahassee is continuing to try and prosecute the DRIVER.

Probably she was prejudiced against people with greying beards. Can’t think of any other reason she would frame someone like him.

She apparently said in a deposition that she poured the bottle out because it's TDP policy not to collect liquid as evidence, so the lawyer handed her the TPD officer's manual and asked her to read that section ... of course, she couldn't, because that section doesn't exist ...

Also of note, the judge said he watched the video, and believes he heard the sound of the seal being broken, but said it would be up to a jury to decide... hard to believe this case hasn't been dropped ...

That is outrageous. If I was an ASA in that office I wouldn't want any part of that case.

Who would do this to another person? A total stranger. A DUI can ruin your life &, at best, is horribly expensive & burdensome. She should be in jail & on the hook for the shitload of $ he better get from the taxpayers.

Cops sure seem to have magical weed smelling ability.

Not shocking given our criminal law mindset.

She knew he was guilty of something. Had to take him off the street any way she could.

She had him for a DWLS, that should be enough. In addition to any other punishment, she shouldn't be allowed to be a sworn officer again.

We need a federal data base of rotten police officers. My reasonable name for it ? A “no cop list”. None on the list should be allowed to be employed as a cop or own a gun without judicial approval.

If you look at the history of policing in the country they were never the good guys. Their training now is criminal. I know there are good cops but if you try to protect a bad cop you are by definition not a good cop.

There’s a federal charge that needs to be pursued. That’s a violation of civil rights under color of the law.

    What training is criminal?

There are way more good cops than bad. Way more. I’m speaking for what I witnessed working at 2 different agencies in Hillsborough county. I witnessed only one false arrest that I think was prejudiced and racist. There was an internal investigation involved and the guy got off, rightfully so. I don’t remember the cop (corporal) being suspended, fined, or disciplined. We were not on the same squad so I may have missed it.

You really have to wonder two things about that cop?

    1. How many times has she done something similar in the past? A reputable State Attorney would assign someone to look at every case they've prosecuted that she played a significant role in.

    2. If she was willing to that for a lousy misdemeanor DUI, can you imagine what she would be willing to do in an important case? See #1 above.

My impression has always been that the police academy in Hillsborough County does a solid job. A guy I used to prosecute with, Michael Reichard, did a lot of work there.

When these type cases are proven to be true the past arrests are in question. If she charged me with a dui I would be asking for my case to be dismissed and money returned, and possibly monetary damage

That name sounds real familiar. I was involved in police work (if you include my time as an arson investigator) from 1977 to 2007. May we have crossed paths?

    Steve Crawford
    Keen Bard
    Denise (Dee Dee) Pomponio
    Betsy Hapner

we’re a few I worked with or knew well.

I attended the Tampa police academy in 1977 and eventually taught a crimes against property block (arson). It’s a legit academy that strictly follows the CJST guidelines.

I know them all. Steve is a Vandy grad, Betsey was a Gator Getter at UF. Dee Dee was/is married to Pete. He was either a cop or a firefighter, I forget which. I believe Keene passed away, he was in a wheelchair ever since I met him.
