RIP Laken Riley

In general, sanctuary cities are safer and have less crime than non-sanctuary cities of similar size. That's because the local immigration population tends to clam up and not cooperate in non-sanctuary cities, because they are more worried about either being deported, or a loved one being deported. Remove this possibility, and there is a lot more community support for the police, who solve a lot more crimes, thus resulting in safer cities.

 

And what does law enforcement think about the policy of not reporting undocumented immigrants who have committed no crimes related to their immigration status to ICE?

I like the chart 2020 "Trump clamp down"! Which is really COVID. Also, we've had surges before. This only goes back to 1990, but undocumented immigrants coming here isn't a new problem at all. Heck, even before 1990, Reagan had his amnesty, sick legalized millions.

 

A statement of this nature would probably result in the excommunication of a Reagan or any other Republican office holder from the MAGA Republican Party of today.

As would this statement from President Reagan:

"You can go to live in France, but you cannot become a Frenchman. You can go to live in Germany or Turkey or Japan, but you cannot become a German, a Turk, or Japanese. But anyone, from any corner of the Earth, can come to live in America and become an American. ''

With the possible exception of Caucasian immigrants from Western Europe former President Trump is opposed to legal immigration almost as much as he is opposed to illegal immigration. This is from 2020 Trump's last year in office and he will almost certainly take a harder line should be elected a second time.

We also have a lot of buildings to construct and/or repair as well as highways and roads to build and/or maintain and if you look at any construction crew you will see that the majority of laborers are immigrants and some are undoubtedly undocumented.

As a matter of fact a certain famous real estate developer didn't hesitate to hire undocumented workers to construct one of his better known projects.

Well, the darling spokesmoron of the right, Marjorie Taylor Greene, has a solution for the Laken Riley tragedy.:

"You should have deported her so that she could be alive today," Ms Greene said. "Her parents would have appreciated that."

("It's unclear if Ms Greene intended to say that Mr Mayorkas should have deported her killer, or if she meant that Riley would still be alive if she had been sent out of the country.")

Giving MTG credit where credit is due she probably meant the Laken Riley would still be alive if her killer was deported. That being said Greene's statement isn't all that surprising from someone who railed against the Gazpacho police or who blamed the California wildfires on Jewish space lasers.
