Apparently the IDF is a stunningly incompetent fighting force. I heard on newscast that 25% of IDF KIA was fratricidal. You’d think with mandatory military service they’d be more professional.

Anyway I tried to find a recent cite and got this.

Out of 170 Israeli soldiers killed in Gaza last year, 29 were either shot by fellow soldiers or died in accidents, according to the latest available IDF data. That means nearly 1 in 5, or 17%, of all Israel’s losses have come not at the hands of Hamas but from mishaps on its own side. Most countries do not release data on friendly fire deaths, meaning Israel faces added scrutiny.

“That is a high rate of friendly fire, even given that it’s occurring in very dense urban terrain,” James Stavridis, a retired U.S. Navy admiral and the former supreme commander of NATO forces, said in an interview. “I think the Israelis will be looking very hard at each of these incidents to try and draw the lesson learned and reduce that level of friendly fire.”

They have like 18 year old colonels, lots of Gen Z kids in higher leadership positions. Its a weird ass military. Now that they are going to conscript the ultra religious that have been exempt, its going to be even more incompetent.

The rational will be the same. This war is going to continue until Hamas unconditionally surrenders in the Gaza Strip or is destroyed. That is the only acceptable outcome for Israel after Oct 7th. In war accidents happen and the party that started it is responsible for the typical accidents that happen in them.

Is Pat Tillman no longer with us because of a blue on blue engagement or because he was in the Army and in Afghanistan due to the 9/11 attacks?

 

I haven't followed this in a while is the IDF still targeting civilians like they did those guys that were walking on the road?

 

There's a decent chance Tillman was killed intentionally

 

But Israel has a right to exist and meets all requirements for a nation state. So that is the starting point.

 

You'd have to buy that Hamas is just driving around in vans out in the open to believe they arent just shooting at whatever is moving.

I didnt say it was likely. His unit burned most of the evidence and tried to cover up the fact he was killed by friendly fire. He had been in touch with Noam Chomsky and people against the war. If war is just war like you said, what were they worried about? Whether it was accidental or intentional, they knew it looked bad.

You realize there are plenty of experts calling out Israel’s failings here, right? Finding an “expert” giving pro-Israel propaganda about how much “care” they are taking to protect civilians isn’t really useful when there are numerous examples of them not taking any care at all. In essence, you just found one to tell you want to hear so you can somehow write it off as “fog of war”. You can do that on any topic. Find a an expert to reinforce your view. In another thread, we were discussing how people become convinced they don’t need license plates or auto insurance, or that they are magically on “do not detain” lists if they declare themselves a sovereign. I’m sure each of them would cite a legal expert that shared the “how to be a sovereign citizen” instruction manual with them. Who knows, maybe there’s a podcast. I’m not suggesting your podcast is that sort of lunacy, just that you can’t assume it’s definitive in any way or that we haven’t already considered the Israeli side.

At the end of the day, Hamas is responsible for their actions. Israel’s government and military is responsible for theirs. The difference is Hamas is a terrorist org. They WANTED to draw Israel in. Israel’s response is giving Hamas what they wanted: Civilian suffering at the hands of the Israeli state. This was Hamas strategy. What is Israel’s end game with blocking food aid? Starving them out? Killing 50,000? 100,000? They could kill all 2 million in Gaza and it would not make them any safer, arguably their actions could be feeding the existential threat not just from Hamas but all of the Islamic world.

As far as this aid group bombing. It’s real simple. It was a massive error, and while you can point to Hamas if you want, the chefs actually only have to be there because Israel is starving the *entire* population of Gaza. That part is 100% on them. As was the airstrike itself, obviously.

Israel isn't starving out the "entire" population of Gaza. I'll take gross exaggerations for $1000 please Alex. It's not like USMC is quoting some garbage "expert", he's literally showing the data that Israel is doing better than basically any other country that has had to urban warfare.
