In-laws live in Chiayi. BiL/SiL are down south. Thankfully, everyone is ok. They said it was shaking throughout the day. This probably could have been much worse, as the east side of the island where the center shock occurred, is much less inhabited. Nonetheless, people experienced the quake throughout the island.
My primary doctor here in Cali is from Taiwan and has family back there. (She's absolutely beautiful too)
Enjoy the food and the wimen! Report back and tell us about your trip. If you can get over to Hualien, it's supposed to be really cool. I haven't been before.
My in-laws live in Taipei. They said the Taipei 101 building was swaying back and forth at the top, which is surprising because the building has a very large (18-foot dia., 660 MT) solid metal ball suspended from just below the top of the building to prevent swaying during an earthquake. It is the largest damper system in the world. https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/tuned-mass-damper-of-taipei-101
