Apparently the latest thing for new Gen Z employees in Britain is to ghost their new employer on their first day of work. It seems to help them feel like they are in charge of their career. (Specifically, they feel it important to be in charge of sabotaging their own career.) An astounding 93% of Gen Z workers admitted to not showing up for an interview, and 87% said they didn't show up for the first day of work. Gen Zers are ‘ghosting’ employers — they’re not even showing up on the first day
This article is about Gen Z blowing off interviews or work and the next article was about Gen Z doing virtual first dates because they couldn't afford in person dates. I found that amusing. When I clicked the article again, the dating article wasn't there, I guess it shuffles.
So I guess we've moved on from complaining about millenials I love that the point of the article is that Gen Z apparently does not possess a peasant mentality. "They dont fear us like good corporate slaves!"
Survey says 75% of Gen Z’ers have “ignored” a prospective employer for the past 12 months. Not defending them, and not sure what that really means but I guaranteed you that 100% of employers have ignored a prospective employee the past 12 months. That’s just what happens when most initial applications are done on line. How many of you have kids or friends with kids who apply for a position on line and never hear a word back from the employer? Virtually all of them. Not showing up for the first day of work after you’ve gotten a job? That’s a whole different issue and just stupid but 87% seems way high.
There's a difference between being a corporate slave and being a douche. Purposely trolling employers that have done nothing to you but offer employment is douchey.
What about the Costanza where you show up for work your first day, unclear if you have gotten the job or not
Sure, but I feel like we see this type of article about every generation not being compliant workers willing to do anything and never missing work. These articles are more of an insight into employer's mindsets and fantasies than employees IMO.
Hiring someone that actually shows up and works for a mutually agreed upon wage is an employer fantasy? Actually, now that you mention it, you're correct.
When I worked at a restaurant, I learned very early on that simply showing up on time (or at all) made me a model employee and I could take "liberties" with my job performance and what I could get away with on the clock. I remember a performance review being like "you never go the extra mile, but you always show up when scheduled, please dont quit."
I've said for years I'll take a C+ level employee that shows up every day with a good attitude. Honestly it's like 75% of my current workforce.
Recruiting, screening, interviewing, hiring, and training new staff is costly in terms of time and money for any company. If you don't want the job: don't accept the offer. Interviews are a two way street. The applicant is also screening the company.
I think my manager was also grateful I wasn't a HS girl and we could just talk about guy stuff off the clock, and there was no drama involved
I didn't notice that distinction but it is huge. My oldest would never not show up on his first day (and would be there early) but he has ignored hundreds of potential employers because he gets inundated with cold emails/offers. If that counts then he is guilty but that isn't being lazy.
Everything about Indeed is kind of April Fools. Their commercials are like "what do you do if your record label loses its best sound guy"... is that really who is using Indeed, c'mon lol.
I don’t know if this employee thing is true or not but reading stuff about employment today makes me glad I’m retired. Boomer power
