I agree with this but the fact is this OP is insane. You have to be reasonable enough to sift thru the insanity.

To be honest, if Trump wins then this could conceivably happen. Imagine how pleased that would make you!

For the sake of conversation; certainly you wouldn't want all media forcibly shut down, correct? Could you give us any examples of valid media you'd like to see survive this hypothetical but necessary government action?

Ah yes, the media is the enemy of the people. Any news that dear leader does not like must be banned and the publishers of such news punished severely. Sounds like freaking north korea. No thanks.

I find CityGator one of the most intelligent posters here. But, like me, he despises everything about Trump and those who worship him.

Forcibly shut down? Where did you read that at? I didn’t suggest it.

Got it. Media not forced to shut down, just having "the crap regulated out of it."

All media? Are there some sources that don't need this government control?

As Glenn Greenwald likes to say, the MSM simplifies the establishment narrative rather than practicing adversarial journalis.

Should have clarified that better, I didn’t mean the poster is insane, just that particular original post. It happens to everyone on this board, myself included. Just gotta sift thru those posts to find reasonable ones.

While I understand the push back against regulating media, I also think something desperately needs to be done about the mis-information that is being spread.

Fox news flat out lies to their watchers, and they aren't even 1/2 as bad as some of the other outlets like OAN. I don't really watch much left wing media, but I suspect they probably lie too.

Social media is a cesspool of lies and propaganda.

I appreciate your perspective on this, in that your concerns and (fear) seem to be the same as my own. I asked 92 a set of simple questions with no insult whatsoever. As follows:

    Question for 92 -
Should the GOP nominee for president lose the election, will the GOP politicians in power honor the result of the election?
    Will the nominee?
    Will the nominee's supporters?
    Will you?

I asked 92 that because from his posting it seems to me he will not be voting for Biden and would be a poster to ask. Apparantly he took umbrage at the question
accusing me of "lumping him in with the GOP". It seems to me that it is inevitable that the electorate will ultimately be deciding whom the next President is between the GOP and Democratic nominee.

The issue of what the reaction of the GOP voting base would be in the event of a loss, is in fact a topic in the media and a topic that will continue to grow and escalate as November grows closer. Considering the gigantic efforts put forth by former President Trump to de-legitimize the 2020 election with his GOP base,
makes this a "not" unresonable question to ask.

    92's response:
You asked me a question while lumping me in with the GOP, and I merely reciprocated with a question back at you. Only difference is I distinguished you from them with a simple slash, rather than retyping the question(s). Your question betrayed your position vis a vis GOP/Trump supporters, so I used that as a premise (to pose a rhetorical question).

    Get over yourself.

You're a partisan hack like the rest of us, or you wouldn't be neck deep in this toxic forum, judging ppls' politics which you oppose, and waxing holiness from on high....

    Then Rick weighed in:
Did Hilary Clinton honor the election in 2016? Or did she and the DNC invent a hit piece (FAKE DOSSIER) that lingered throughout the entire 4 years of President Trump's time in office?

That was NO DOSSIER, that was a treasonous list of lies deigned to take down a sitting president.

Clinton, in point of fact, conceded the election in less than 24 hours and Trump took the oath with little controversey. By my way of thinking, yes, she honored the process

Rick then followed up with the "treasonous list of lies". I can't say I blame GOP supporters for being upset about this, (although I am hardly in command of all the facts behind the Steel dossier), however that is merely one cherry from a gigantic cherry tree full of (THOUSANDS of RIPE CHERRYS), courtesy of the lies and disinformation, sown, grown and nurtured, by party operatives and elected representatives, whom have completely lost their minds, whom have betrayed the
true essense of representative and cooperative Gov't and the hope and ideals of the American Experience.

    Spurffelbow 833 posted:
Both sides are led by cunning and deceit. Republicans use semantics and debater's tricks (Machiavelli). Democrats use language (Orwell/Huxley).

A brief but elegant description of what the American electorate is supposed to "weed" through on the way to the voting booth.

    In Summary:
I fully recognize that the history of politics in this country has ALWAYS been rife with lies, more lies and God-Damned lies, with endless manipulations, half truths,
voter intimidation, racism, slavery, Jim Crow, corrupt capatalism, religon, the manipulation of labor, the genocide of indiginous people, and mainly to benefit the wealthy.

I get it, history is one of the subjects that fascinate me.

But LACUNA posted this and I think every breathng American, regardless of ideology or political affiliation should consider profoundly:

If the animosity isn't scaled back it will explode in destructive violence. And sad to say, I know there are some who want exactly this. Fools. It will solve nothing but destroy any hope of achieving what the inciters mistakenly invision would come of such a violent conflagration.

When one side pushes, the other side is inclined to push back harder, and the situation inevitably escalates. I fear the time for reconciliation and remediation has passed us by. I hope I'm wrong.

This - It happened once, at the cost of 600,000 dead x 2 wounded and half the infrastructure of the country destroyed.
As a man about to reach 65, I merely hope that those whom would plunge the country into a similar, if not far worse catastrophe, would
reconsider, if not for their own sakes, but for the sakes of their children and future generations.

It wasn't designed to take down a sitting president, it was written before Trump became president. Fusion GPS was so concerned about what they were finding that they started providing information to the FBI in July of 2016. The intent was not to take down a sitting president, but to keep a compromised person from becoming president. They failed in that goal. We the people can succeed in that goal in November.

Lacuna makes some very good points. The sad thing is though is most on the left do not realizes when they post how condescending their posts are. When you call the entire right a cult and only refer to the former President as the orange god, it makes any of us that lean right just discount anything said and don't really care how we reply. There are several posters on here that I probably disagree with way more than I agree with, but the dialog is generally respectful and those are the ones I try to engage with. As far as those on the right here, I think when you come on this board and are verbally attacked and told how stupid you are for having a thought that doesn't align with theirs you have 2 options. Leave, which appears for the most part right leaning posters have done or try to engage. It gets very tiresome when you have 6-10 to one on anything you trying to defend. So what happen? Some try to see just how outlandish they can be! I have tried and still trying to be better at my engagement to be as civil and thoughtful as I can be. We all could do better. The way I am trying to post is what I am saying would I say it to your face in a restaurant or bar or gathering. I am quite confident many on here would not voice things the way they do to a total stranger face to face.

I have been thinking this was our biggest problem for a long time. I mostly thought this issue would just slow our nation’s progress forward, but I am also now wondering if it has the potential to blow up to send us backwards. In addition to being so risky, this conflict also seems so senseless. We aren’t fighting against annihilation, slavery, or torture, but a difference of opinion on legislation. How much should that really be worth?

You're definitely not wrong about this and I am as guilty about it as anyone here. However, I have said all the time if you gave him a shot in 2016 but said 'no way' in 2020 that I have no issues with you.

However, for many of us, we just can't fathom what of the 50,000 or so things Trump has done to disqualify himself as president that anyone could still support him. It's completely mind boggling.

Also, when we see the "dressed in Trump wear, head-to-toe" people being interviewed outside his rallies that say things like, "He's still the president in charge of the "real" military," or that "I'd vote for Putin over Biden," we are left with no choice but to assign the lot of you to the short bus brigade.

It depends on the scope and purpose of the legislation/judicial rulings, Roe v. Wade for example.

Also, go read up on the Handsmaid's Tale horror that is Project 2025 and tell me that this is just arguing around the edges.

Thank you. Perhaps I worded my post poorly. I do think some legislation can impact our lives and may deserve our passions, but I don’t necessarily think the supporters of that legislation deserve our disdain. Project 2025 looks like it includes a suite of things, and it appears some critics worry that it opens up a path to give more power to the executive, which I would be most certainly against. However, I had not heard of this plan before, and I am guessing many Republican voters have not either. I imagine a few Trump supporters really do hate constitutional restraints on power and desire dictator like powers for Trump, but most of them seem like they really just don’t like the liberal attitudes on immigration and education, etc. Those topics seem like they should be within the bounds of acceptable debate.

Conservative posters want to come in here and post conspiracy theories, black crime, and trans-fear and not take some heat? I bet that is 90% of their threads. Let’s go through your last few beauties and see which are posted for engagement:
    • State National
    • Putin wants Biden elected
    • Migrant credit cards
    • Election fraud by Democrats
    • Disney worker in fairy outfit
    • The left loves Bin Laden ideology
    • A Biden is old thread
    • “Proof” Biden is a crook
Which one of those would you expect not to illicit some condescending responses? Heck my response here is pretty condescending, but I’d argue, on point.

Thanks for the remarks and I would say when you paint with a broad brush you tend to lump things together that may not necessarily go together.
As you stated for many of you who support Biden now and did the first time, many of us couldn't fathom voting for him the first time let alone again.
As far as being dressed up in MAGA attire, it is what our politics have become, my team vs your team. It's sad really, but I am sure you are just as guilty as I am when you see certain posters, what they have to say has been discounted before even reading to see if they might make sense whether you agree with it or not. I am trying hard to improve myself in that area every time I log on!!
