I think it's a slim chance, but with abortion and weed now on the ballot it makes sense. Also the always lingering Social Security and insurance issues that weigh heavy in Florida. They're at least going to force a cash strapped Trump campaign to spend on some defense if they have any money left after paying for his legal fees from the coffers.

I do not get the idea that marijuana being on the ballot is a big deal. Does anyone know someone in Florida that cannot get marijuana if they want it through medical dispensaries?

I’m old enough to remember when Florida was a blue state.

If you are already getting it, I'm sure you wont mind dispensing with having to re-up with a Dr. like every 8 months and pay fees to the state every year just for the privilege to buy weed. Recreational will save all those people around $200-300 a year.

With the abortion amendment on the ballot for November, that may put FL in play.

It's a better strategy than Hillary's strategy of focusing on states where she was a lock.

Actually her biggest mistake was ignoring states in which she thought that she was a lock, Wisconsin and Michigan coming immediately to mind and in Pennsylvania trying to flip suburban women while ignoring working class voters.

When UF Alumnus, Bob Graham, was the Governor of Florida, "Blue was Cool!" Graham also later became a US Senator.

Then "Red became popular" when Jeb Bush became the Governor among others.

IMO, they have to figure out how to counter the GOP messaging that's so successfully connected the Castros, Chavez and Maduro with Biden and Democratic Socialists in the minds of Cuban Americans and Latino Americans.

Interestingly, DeSantis not campaigning for Trump, in Florida, as he doesn’t believe FL will be competitive.

    Interpret that as you will.

I mean, what else are they gonna say? We can’t win it, congrats Don?

The problem in Florida for the Dems has been their ground game, it’s awful there. It costs them about 3 points an election. Fix that and it might at least be competitive,

I personally don't think Biden can win Florida, but worth noting that despite the subsequent huge wins by DeSantis and Rubio in 2022, Trump only beat Biden by about 3 and a half points in Florida in 2020. Probably closer than most people remember.

Maybe so but she (and/or her staff and the DNC) also ran a very poor campaign. One example even before she became the Democratic Party's formal nominee was the strategy of putting in the fix for her. Although she would have won the nomination anyway by pursuing a strategy that favored her the DNC managed to alienate supporters of Bernie Sanders and while they didn't vote for Trump enough of them stayed home or voted third party to flip the election to Trump in Wisconsin, Michigan where Trump won by a margin of well under one percent and possibly Pennsylvania where Trump's margin was around one percent. In the general election she tried to flip NC, Florida and even Texas while ignoring Michigan and Wisconsin.

It was a blue state mainly because of the Dixiecrat history. Other than south Florida the democrats weren’t terribly liberal and go far enough back you could only find democrats on the ballot.

The RNC has limited funds - fundraising isn’t going well and Trump is draining funds for his attorney fees. I can’t help but think this is DNC’s plan to get the RNC to use a good portion of what funds it has on a state favoring Trump. Put him on the defensive in in a state he could plausibly lose and where he’s a resident. I think he’ll be forced to sink more money in Florida than he wants or planned leaving less for other contentious states.

People in Florida are savvy enough to vote for their favorite candidate and separate that from their desire to party... and to keep abortion in some legal way.

The cannabis question is maybe a less of a morale question for me, and more of a financial one.. My stocks would soar with legal weed in the state of Florida, but what else comes with that change in law? Who knows how that change will effect our state, so that is something for me to consider.

This may not be true. In ME, recreational weed is far more expensive than medical. For most (depending on consumption) it's cheaper to go the med route than rec.

For me - it's close to a wash (costs me a bit more to go rec), but since I technically can't hold a hunting license AND a medical MJ license (though I did for years), I just spend the extra $$/year to not deal with the outside chance of some legal entanglement should I ever go hunting with Dick Cheney.

Plus, rec is better regulated than medical.
