Actually you’ve made a good point—Neely was solid his first 40-50 pitches. Pitches after that, well everything started to drag and tire. That’s why he has to be stretched out to 6 innings worth of work.

What actually happens when a pitcher continues to pitch beyond wherever he’s ready to compete is this—legs tire and do not drive through his mechanics and finish the pitches “on time”. This also leads to the arm starting to drag and drop which puts added stress on both the shoulder and elbow.

As this happens it affects the consistency of a correctly duplicated release point ending up with a “shotgun” release point and loss of command.

All of this tied together creates lazy or bad mechanics which is the last thing you want to do for the sake of one outing.

Not sure if this has been discussed yet, but Curland has been playing with what was thought to be a bone bruise but is actually a fracture in his hand. It happened in one of the games against Columbia.

Cade’s swinging the bat has just been different after his hand injury. I have thought all along noticing the difference that the injury has got to be hampering him (at least somewhat). Good catch @gatormonk. Big difference between a bone bruise and a fracture for sure.

I’ve mentioned a few times that he definitely still seems to be favoring it.

He’s been hit twice in the same hand. First time was in the fingers, second time in the palm. Don’t remember which games, but remember after the first, people were saying that the xrays were good. Tons of tiny bones in the hand though, and they’re easy to miss on an xray.
