I agree Neely should give us better starts. I don't believe he will be as good as Cags has been so far. That said at least Sully is still working at making big improvements, batting order still to come. The tough part is waiting to see just how much better Neely will be. Disclaimer: Mentioning Cags as the best starter does not imply that he has to he the Friday starter as some have said.
I liked Neely in the closer role. He could come in with high energy. Starting is a totally different mindset. I hope it works out.
I like the move but personally I’d rather keep Fisher in the rotation over Peterson. Outside of the St. John’s anomaly I think Fisher has just had “the one big inning” plaguing his stats each game and he tends to respond well in the following innings. Peterson seems to be giving up more hard contact consistently as of late. Not to mention his walk rate is much higher and his strikeout rate is much lower than Fisher’s. Fisher’s experience is another advantage I’d give him over Peterson.
Agreed—I believe that Cags plays his best overall baseball for the Gators pitching on Sundays. Neely will be fine—but he needs to have time to get stretched out to effectively pitch to the six innings plateau. I’d like to think everyone is aware of the process.
Apparently they are starting Johhny Cash on Sunday....he does appear to have a better haircut than the other two
Kudos to Sully for making a change that needed to be made! Jac has been one of the better pitchers around. Liam has definitely had rough spots but has shown his stuff in spots. Neely is solid we could be tough to beat. He will have to throw the off speed pitch for a strike but I think he can.
Woah, I didn’t even see the news until just now. Yeah let’s do it. Whatever be the results, I like the idea experimenting in April rather than in June.
In basketball we use to have the Human Eye Chart. Looks like on Saturday MSU has the Human Pronunciation Guide.
Cijntje is a switch pitcher but from what I can tell he’s mainly a righty. Doesn’t look like he chooses based on which batter’s box is being used. Capable of throwing 93 from the left side and 97 from the right. Should be fun to watch.
Yes, sir, I’m excited about this as love Fisher, but just isn’t a Friday night or Saturday night guy at this point. I think he will majorly add to our bullpen and you could even see him as an awesome middle guy to give us 2 to 3 innings. Love him coming in against left-handed hitting lineups. As I mentioned, if Neely can get the slider over, I think he can give us 5 to 6. Very good innings every time out. He’s a tough dude we will keep an eye on pitch count wise Maybe tonight. Easily could throw 70 or 75 tonight and then from here on out could give us 100.
on the role of the dice, I get it, but at the same time with Slater, Fisher, and McNellie I think we will go closer by committee until we eventually settle with Fisher into more of a middle role. I love the move as Friday nights are extremely important and you have to establish yourselves as winning. That first game is huge. With what we were doing we were almost at a disadvantage on Friday night. This gives us a huge addition in the bullpen as we don’t have a lot of lefty presence. I also think having Fisher in the bullpen gives us something we did not have with a guy that could go two or three innings easily especially against left hand heavy teams.
I posted that Neely might move to the weekend with McNellie showing good stuff for a closer. Just spitballing then and just spitballing now.
Fun fact, the 2017 team didn't win more than 4 in a row until May. Until then, they had 2 4-game winning streaks, each included sweeps of teams that did not make the tournament. At the end of April through the beginning of May, they completed their longest winning streak of the season at 9 games. In the postseason, their longest winning streak was 3 games.
