A team batting average of .283 and a team ERA of 5.84. That's not a good combination. Not with the talent on this team. What the heck happened? https://www.ncaa.com/stats/baseball/d1/current/team/210
That’s a head scratcher for sure. The bottom half of the order are almost at this point a guarantee out. The swing to miss ratio seems unfathomable. To be on scholarship at the University of Florida and can’t hit flying cabbage just doesn’t add up. Florida is a top 3 premier baseball school. I hope these issues get fixed. I believe pitching will improve as the season progresses. There has been marked improvement by some of the younger arms.
It’s the middle of the week games and losses that I think are killing us. We’re having to pitch our fourth and fifth level pitchers and the bats haven’t caught fire yet. The weekend series seems to be going a lot better.
Not a fan of using NCAA rankings when the teams play such a vastly different caliber of competition over the course of the season. I like using SEC rankings, but it's still early: #2 in OPS (.922), Tennessee leads (.992) #1 in HR (16), tied with Tennessee #13 in Ks (66), Missouri is the worst with 76; Arkansas leads with 41 #8 in OPS allowed (.811), Arkansas leads (.580) #7 in WHIP (1.52), Arkansas leads (1.15) #5t in ERA (4.50), Arkansas leads (2.21) Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
Yes we do still have that pop and rank high in home runs. I was just surprised to see us so low in batting average. And pitching has GOT to improve.
It’s been my experience that good hitters are not trying to hit home runs when they actually hit home runs—that said, approach and a plan at the plate do really need to improve. We have to get out of the dead red pull swing approach regardless of the pitch or the pitch location. We are actually swinging at curveballs and sliders that are dirt balls outta the strike zone—and if you’re watching—again, it’s a dead pull swing. We have to get back to the approach we used at the first of the season. Cut the plate in half and middle-in fine pull it—but if it’s middle away let it get deeper on the plate and drive the ball where it’s pitched-oppo!!! As far the pitching goes—our guys have got to learn to pitch and locate their pitches better with two strikes on a hitter as well as two outs in an inning. We (our pitchers) just currently are giving up too much when they are in pitcher’s counts. That’s about all I’ve got to say about that……..
We've obviously got our share of problems, but the fact that Purdue-Fort Wayne (among others) is ahead of us should tell you the irrelevancy of team batting average.
Top 6 can bang with anybody. Need to find a 7, 8, and 9 at some point. The bottom of the order is killing us. Multiple bats in the 100 range are obviously gonna skew the team numbers. Pitching is still an issue, but the freshmen do seem to be making strides.
A couple are real drags on the BA so I don't think it's as bad overall as it looks. I doubt there's another starter under .180 in the SEC besides Tanner (not saying he should be benched..)
Dale is under 200, Guy is at 200, Russel is under 100, Brody is at 220, and Yost is at 125. None of those are helping out the team BA.
Swinging for fences a little too much. You see Ty Evans approach this year- hit it is where it is pitched and has stopped trying to pull everything, and look at the results. IMO Yost needs to be in lineup and Albert needs more at bats. Yost has an excellent swing and doesn’t try to pull everything.
Kurland still battling the fracture in his hand and is not taking any batting practice at all so you would expect his numbers to be off.
