    I'd say that was the dumbest take on this, but then I saw a Florida lawmaker blame it on DEI. So it will have to settle for the silver medal.

    Okay, since you are awake, perhaps you will be able to answer these questions:

    Given that there are three alternative routes to move materials that add about 45 minutes or so to the route, (as well as a variety of other options if you move out of the DC/Baltimore area), which is certainly a pain-in-the-butt, but hardly strategically important, why is taking out this bridge so crucial?

    Second, can you explain how the country was split by the Mason-Dixon line during the Civil War? To all of us sleeping people, Maryland was in the Union, but perhaps you have different information.

    Third, what exactly is the strategic importance to an adversary of a historical line that delineated where slavery was and wasn't allowed?

    Fourth, how does taking down one interstate route divide the entire country when there are 10 major north/south interstate highways, in addition to numerous US highways and minor interstates?

    Fifth, explain how the bridge was built for that purpose vs. simply being part of the beltway of Baltimore?

    I eagerly anticipate well-thought out, deep, critical thinking in the answer of these questions. Let's see how awake you really are.

    Just a guess taking the beltway around the western side of Baltimore would probably add about 45 minutes to a north-south trip for vehicles that would otherwise use the bridge and are unable to use the tunnels.

    Actually, the bridge is not part of the beltway. It’s a spur off of it that routes around the tunnel

    The bigger issue is the port closing.
    A cruise ship already had to let folks off in Norfolk instead of Baltimore.

    95 and 295 run into the beltway. If you now have to go around the inner loop to get north of Baltimore it would probably take a good 30 minutes extra. The west side of the beltway has a lot of construction going on as they add additional lanes so I would expect that work to accelerate.

    It always amuses me how incapable people that believe these things are in engaging in actual critical thought on their theories. They never really try to falsify their own beliefs. Almost like it is a form of meaning and/or entertainment to them, and they don't want to lose it.
