US Happiness Ranking Plummets as One Group Struggles Most

I assume it must primarily social media, such that their reality has become so distorted that they are less happy than in places like Saudi Arabia and Guatemala.

The discontent among America's youth is largely behind the dramatic drop.

For the first time, the report published alternative rankings based on age range. In the under-30 category, the US dropped into 62nd place, behind countries including Saudi Arabia and Guatemala.

I see a biased set of people in this age group since my boys and their friends are in this group. Most don't have social media but they are much more informed.
Interestingly, one of the reasons listed for unhappiness in the younger generation is political division. From some of the extremists on these boards, that makes sense.

By no means a scientific poll, but I signed up for TikTok about a year ago mostly because I like the football related videos.

However, plenty of Gen Z political rants come up. They are either very pro trans middle schoolers or extremely Ben Shapiro style conservatives. I buy the extremes.

It’s funny you say that. Because, to me, there are quite a few of those. More so left side but still, quite a few. Probly around the same ratio of nuts to rational on both sides, it’s just there are lots more lefties on this free board than the main site.

Paraphrasing the great Viktor Frankl - you don’t get to choose your circumstances but you do get to choose your response and attitude.

Technology allows us to know a little about a lot, typically with little depth or context as we move quickly from one post to the next. We choose what we consume and we choose how to respond. Hopefully younger people start making better choices.

I would say the same for all the idiots that think they need to "Make America Great Again". America is great, if you don't like it, feel free to move to Saudi.

This is the funniest thing I see with the Pubs. They constantly complain that libs hate America and love to say "Love it or leave it!", and at the same time complain none stop about things they hate about America.

Feels like some projection from you both. I'm not under 30 and I own a home. I stated an observation. Besides, I'm sure those under 30 will be able to buy homes here again soon anyway. We just need a change in leadership. Heard we have one coming up in a few months. Might help having someone who worked in the real estate industry and understands finance, instead of a career politician of 50+ years.

Yeah, I'm sure that "home ownership for young Americans" will be Trump's first priority if he cheats his way back into office. That plan will be revealed right after that new national healthcare plan he promised 8 years ago.

This poster is fascinating because he promotes a fantasy Trump in his mind that is nothing like the actual Trump.

It might help to have someone who's companies haven't gone bankrupt multiple times, and is not a serial molester. I know what you're going to say: "He's not a proven rapist--just a sexual assault guy. Those years of association with Jeffrey Epstein didn't mean anything!"

And that doesn't even cover the desire to be a dictator. It would kinda help to have a president who understands the process of government BEFORE he starts in office (and before he initiates his first insurrection). "Who knew insurrections could be so complicated?"

And it would help to have a president that knew how to develop a coalition of world leaders to solve world problems together, instead of doing everything unilaterally, and pissing our allies off along the way.

In short, it would help to have a president who is not an arrogant moron.

Apparently the president, since it seems to be a matter of leadership according to his post

De Neve cited the rise of social media, a decline in youth mental health, and political division as potential factors driving the decline. Thanks Tik Tok.

And sure, it's always better when can you beat your woman into submission rather than your woman humiliating you on social media. o_O
