If it had been Biden, they would have just said it was his speech impediment issues. He stuttered..

And that he didn't have a well documented history of racist actions and comments, and that he hadn't run a presidential campaign based upon stoking hatred through repeatedly telling racist lies.

    So there is also that....

David Trone is not a low-profile Congressman. He is the founder and co-owner of national chain of alcohol stores called Total Wine and More that does about $5B in revenue a year. He is also the best option for Democrats in Maryland for an open Senate seat where Larry Hogan is the Republican candidate and popular former governor. Flipping that seat would make it extremely difficult for Democrats to hold the Senate for the next term.

Rumor is that Trone has been eyeing this Senate seat for a while.

Not a rumor, he's a very serious candidate for the Senate. Trone has been running ads for the last several months mainly for the Democratic primary. A recent poll published in the Washington Post had Larry Hogan leading Trone and the other Democratic candidate with a shot at the nomination, Angela Alsobrooks by double digits. That being said Hogan a popular 2-term former governor has the advantage of name recognition and the same poll also indicated that a majority of respondents would prefer that the Democrats retain control Senate. Trone should win the Democratic primary setting up a very interesting general election campaign. He has very deep pockets and although I'm not a political strategist I would suggest he focus as much on retaining Democratic control of the Senate as well as his positions and personal qualifications.

The issue is that Trone's primary opponent, Alsobrooks, is a county official that has never won or run a state wide election and she is likely to win the primary in Maryland. Trone might have costed himself the primary with that comment, see below. If Alsobrooks gets the nomination, then this race is going to cost the DSCC a ton of money to protect what should be a safe Democratic Senate seat. Trone could easily self fund, which is what the DSCC wanted. If Alsobrooks wins, that is going to be extremely disadvantageous during this Senate election cycle where the Democrats are already defending a lot of seats. Which is why @rivergator this is a very big story. It could end up costing the Democrats the Senate.

FYI, Rep Jamie Raskin just endorsed Alsobrooks over Trone in the Democratic primary.
