I listened to Coach Sale and it sounds like the OL is deep. He is high on Jake Slaughter and Kearney is pushing Slaughter. It's encouraging that Kearney could fill in if Slaughter should need it.
LJ McCray is standing out in Spring Practice. There is talk of McCray starting or at least being a solid contributer. The new RB'S are showing good things.
I am just kicking this off. What are you hearing that is encouraging news for the 2024 season?

Florida’s defense had 116 missed tackles in 2023. That's almost 10 missed tackles per game. It results in first downs for the opposing team and keeps the the defense on the field. Ron Roberts getting the defense to wrapping up players is an encouraging sign!

Over the last several years, I've seen very few, if any, videos of live tackling drills going on at practices. Most of the time, it's been a player jumping on some rolling donut. Now, I realize I'm not seeing an entire practice and live tackling drills may be taking place. However, whatever is being practiced is just not getting it done. To me, tackling is an attitude. You want to bring that attitude to whomever is carrying the ball. Not everything has to be a kill shot but our guys shouldn't be the ones absorbing the hit. They should be the ones initiating contact and taking the offensive player to the ground immediately.

Bad angles and lack of discipline in assignments will affect tackling. It's not as if guys aren't trying to tackle. Some of that may be fundamental tackling skills as well but what happens before contact matters as well. Reggie nelson was a hard hitter and a sure tackler because his instincts and reads put him in a great position early on to make the plays with confidence and no hesitation.

I have played 0.000 seconds of organized football in my life, so feel free to poke holes in what I say about football. I have played hundreds hours of organized basketball. Not sure if this is similar between the two sports, but good defense in basketball is 10% knowledge of fundamentals, 10% intelligence, and 80% effort. Yes I just made that up and it’s subjective… but my point is that even if you fluctuate the percentages… effort is the most important factor.

It's encouraging to me that we have a proven experienced QB1, and, a true freshmen QB2 with an extremely high ceiling who is ready to learn from QB1.

  9. I have played organized football. You are almost correct. For a defensive back or linebacker making tackles it is 10% math (geometry), 10% science (physics), 10% knowledge of fundamentals, 10% intelligence, and 80% effort. It takes 120% total effort.

Spring Practice drills have included tackling coaches absorbing the hit with a big pad. The coach encourages players to wallop them. From what I can tell, the coaches are not pussyfooting around. So, yes, good fundamentals are being taught. Obviously, this has been greatly lacking!

Absolutely!!! Playing out if position and taking bad angles to the ball carrier especially killed us in the Kentucky game. That was by design, because the Kentucky coaches saw the weakness of our defense.

playing the scheme correctly and being in the right place at the right time. Also makes the tackles easier to make.

This and a top 10 recruiting class would officially take Napier off the hot seat, especially considering our schedule.

There’s no need to have played this sport to validate your opinion. There are football coaches that never played a down also.

My Dad used to say it differently but simpler. He said that a good LB was mobile, agile, and, hostile (all pronounced with a short - i of course :))

Kick a field goal versus Arky and stop a 4th and 17 pass play versus Missouri and we enter this year thinking differently. A few plays away.

I'm hearing Tank is the real deal. And Graham.

And that Mertz has taken it to the next level. I think he could be right in there with our best ever QBs if he has protection.

The defense will remain in prove it mode until they start proving it.
    Fix the defense!

Hot damn!!! We need some wide receiver's to step up and contribute. We need some wide receiver's to break out and make up for Pearsall's departure.
