"I saw them throw it in to Simpson, and I thought ZP did an incredible job staying down and staying between him and the basket, and Simpson somehow got about five feet of separation off ZP, and made a really tough skilled shot from the baseline,"

“But again, I thought ZP did his job. Stayed in legal guarding position. Stayed between the ball and the basket, and, again, somehow Simpson just created about seven feet of separation to get that shot off."

Third foul on Samuel was BS. The whole start of the second half was BS, as there was also that CO guard (last shot guy I think) who elbowed his way for a layup . . . and-one foul on Headband = BS. Last foul on Condon, who cleanly blocked a shot, was BS. I don't recall any team that was screwed by the refs as much as this year's FL squad. I agree with the poster in the game thread who called for AI reffing. It won't happen because . . . . $$$$. And yeah, the final pushoff was a BS no call.

yup! Coaches have to be crafty on offering critique, and he couldn’t have done it any better!

Yes just so happens 2 of our 3 most important players are in foul trouble in the 1st half then immediately Samuel gets called early….despite not getting in foul trouble all year

yea AI isn’t going to happen unless you can tweak each program for each game to get the same results as paying off refs. If anyone truly believes refs are fair, they’re either blind or on the winning end of a cooked game like this. There’s a hell of a LOT of money in college basketball gambling, especially in March Madness. Compare that with the avg ref salary and we have something called MOTIVE

I'd just like to see some public accountability from the referees themselves on why they did or didn't make certain calls. Enough of the behind closed doors review processes. It doesn't need to be a circus but there needs to be some level of public accountability.

Going way back to 2004 football as an example. Why does a ref call a penalty on Dallas baker for slapping the Tennessee player when the Tennessee player slapped Baker first and the ref was literally directly in front watching both actions? I just want to hear the logic.

In basketball, maybe referees will be better with the whistle if they actually have to admit that they didn't see the contact on some of these blocks like the ones today or the Kansas game where there was no contact but a foul was called.

The elbows from Colorado were high all game and stayed high it was mind blowing I’m actually surprised no one came out with a bloody nose or something, again can’t give 102 pts up but when we did play tight good defense a foul call instantly it felt like.

Maybe this guys familiarity with Colorado subconsciously affected how the game was called.

The refs were never going to allow Florida to win. They bailed out Colorado all game long, at every turn. I'm proud of the team.

Study Says College Basketball Referees Try to Keep Foul Calls Even (Published 2009)

a little dated but an interesting read on ref bias
refs "make more calls against teams with leads and were more likely to make calls in favor of home teams."
"It found that referees called fouls on visiting teams at a probability of 7 percent higher than on home teams; that there was a 69 percent chance the visitors would be whistled for the next foul if the home team had five or more fouls than the visiting team; and that when the home team led, its chances of being whistled for the next foul were about 6.3 percent higher than when it trailed."

Colorado was very aggressive on offense, when not having easy layups, initiating contact to our defensive player. Any time we put any resistance, whistle for a foul. Very frustrating.

Is that study done by those fine folks at the American Tobacco Institute?

UF is still the only team who gets “homed” at home.

ESPN shows the shot several times in a video linked to the article below, but edited so you’re seeing the shot after the push off. One angle in this video at the :19-:20 second mark shows it clearly though:

Why be subtle about it? This isn't an SEC game, who would fine him? I think I would have ripped those Ref's a new one for such a poorly officiated game.

He also said, "It looked good once it left my hands" as if he hit the bottom of the net. What a joker. That was one of the luckiest, sloppiest game-winning shots in NCAA history. He's lucky that you don't have to call your attempts beforehand.

So often this year it seemed as if the refs noticed that the opposing team had 5 or 6 fewer fouls on them and presto...4 to 5 fouls on Florida in the next 2 minutes.

A quick, Google search, led me to this article posted below. This man’s wife, is an assistant coach for the Minnesota women’s team. And he is still allowed to referee Big Ten games? What is the NCAA thinking? There are so many conflicts of interest with this guy reffing basketball anywhere. Obviously, he has it in for the TG. And why is he ever allowed to ref his wife’s school? I know she coaches for the women’s team, but how could he not be inherently biased if he was doing a gopher men’s game? Crazy.
