The guys played with no sense of urgency on defense until the last 4 minutes. We were getting taken to school all game. Why not bring the press out earlier? Do something to get the guys active on defense. Nothing until it was too late.
Should've been an offensive foul. It's not why we lost, but you have to wonder why the ref swallowed the whistle there. We weren't winning the tourney, but 34 FTs for Colorado is ridiculous.
Factually, you are correct. It’s never over until it’s over, but I think they were just frustrated and could tell we we’re not going to win, which in the end they were right.
Well see there was a stretch in the game where it felt like Colorado scored on 10, 15, or 20 straight possessions. Our offense kinda went flat, and our defense just left the building for a long stretch.
They kept scoring at will, and we took some poor shots with a good dose of being tentative on offense.
Not much to brag about, unfortunately. They still shot nearly 64% for the game, 60% from 3 and hit 28 FTs and we couldn't get a stop at the end. And we gave up 13? straight shots when the game was even and we were keeping up. The defense was still a disaster and waiting so long to press was a poor decision because we did nothing to try and slow their streak down. Can't argue with that.
Clayton - 33 points (10-of-17 FG, 4-of-10 3pt, 9-of-10 FT, 1 Reb, 0 Asst, 1 TO) Richard - 15 points (6-of-10 FG, 3-of-6 3pt, 2 Reb, 3 Asst, 3 TO) Z Pullin - 13 points (3-of-8 FG, 1-of-2 3pt, 6-of-7 FT, 3 Reb, 2 Stl, 4 Asst, 1 TO) Samuel - 11 points (5-of-8 FG, 1-of-2 FT, 6 Reb, 1 Blk, 5 Asst, 0 TO) R Kugel - 11 points (4-of-8 FG, 1-of-2 3pt, 2-of-2 FT, 4 Reb, 3 Stl, 1 Blk, 0 Asst, 0 TO)
Technical didn't make a difference. There was plenty of time to come back and win but they waited to long to make the final run. A little defense would have helped but we got called for a foul every time we tried to guard them. I don't blame the coach for the technical at all. We were getting jobbed big time.
The game came down to the last shot, a miss from 3/4 court by Clayton. That's a far cry from being able to turn off the TV with 4 minutes to go and the game not being in question.
Well everyone, it's been a fun season but with a tragic ending the last two games. I've certainly enjoyed watching this team more than any we have had since 2014. If we pick up a top flight PG and big man in the portal and improve our defense and everyone who is eligible comes back, we should compete for the SEC title and a high seed in the tournament. Heres to next year!
