Not sure I understand why going more than 16 makes any sense. Already too big in my opinion. But, I’m an old guy so what do I know?
Screw FSU and Clemson... we need new states like North Carolina and Virginia to get a bigger TV footprint for the SEC IF. IF the SEC ever again considers expansion, just say no... or go with a North Carolina and a Virginia school. I for one like the SEC the way it is right now... too big already. Clemson and FSU... hungry for money, more power and more money to cheat with. Audit anyone connected to The University of Florida that thinks letting these cheating schools into the SEC is a good idea.
It may be that this is a strategic way to force the ACC to give Clemson a much bigger slice of the pie by agreement with some other schools who don't want the entire conference imploded . . . or more likely (IMO) . . . to try forcing ESPN to renegotiate.
ESPN has no incentive to renegotiate. The ACC implodes and their deal with the SEC gets much better, or the ACC stays as is and they get to underpay.
I guess I’m in the minority but I like USCe. Their fans are the least obnoxious of all the schools (not counting Vandy because, well, they just don’t count). Their fans are super-passionate, and they put out good teams in most sports, including the clear-cut no. 1 woman’s basketball team. I like em more than Clemson.
I don’t understand how they can complain the contract they were part of drawing up and then agreed to, can be considered unfair
I'm kind of surprised by the timing, but it apparently has to do with the new CFP deal with the SEC and Big-10. I really thought Clemson, UNC and others would hold of until they saw the direction FSU's suit went, especially since the ACC added the 3 new teams. In my opinion, there is more coming. Something has happened, like maybe NCSU really wants out. I have long thought that the best way to escape the ACC GOR is to destroy the ACC TV contract. The whole Cal, Stanford and particularly taking SMU was, from what I read, about a clause in the ABC/ESPN TV contract that said if the ACC went below a certain number of members, ESPN/ABC could basically renegotiate the contract and I think that would effectively make the GOR worthless. If FSU, Clemson and UNC left, the 3 additions would keep the ACC TV deal intact. What Clemson and apparently UNC apparently being ready to move tells me is that there's a 4th school that has flipped and wants to join the fight. This doesn't really change anything for the schools that leave the ACC actually getting into the SEC or Big-10 right away, but it would certainly make them more attractive. I also wonder how close Notre Dame is to making a move. The SEC and Big-10 money is getting pretty close to what Notre Dame makes. They are the school that will actually set off the next round of SEC and Big-10 expansion.
I'm talking about before the NIL... Now these same teams just find new way to find money to "sway" players from other teams to join them. More so with FSU, that seems to reload on portal players. The last thing we need is to give any of these two teams more money to get more talent. No more expansion... or get into a new TV market like North Carolina and Virginia.
One more thing. If UNC, Clemson, FSU and whoever else manage to get out of the GOR, I think that would make it a lot easier for them to get into the SEC and Big-10, because they'd probably be willing to take a half share until the SEC and Big-10 renegotiate their TV deals in a few years. I know all those school will think they deserve a full share, but the TV networks probably won't give them a whole lot more money and the SEC and Big-10 members aren't going to take a pay cut.
Maybe... If the SEC schools think they can make an extra dollar by adding those schools, they'll do it.
If that happens and the SEC does do the unthinkable and expands... give me the University of North Carolina and another school from either the state of North Carolina or the state of Virginia. Screw FSU cheating azz U and Clemson. We cannot reward bad behavior in the SEC.
No way we lose the Gamecocks. They are the flagship university in that state. Their athletic programs compete with the SEC on multiple fronts. I will take the tar heels for the same reasons. Don't want Clemson. Absolutely do not want FSU. As been pointed out many times, they had their chance to join and the passed on the chance.
I don't disagree. For both the Big-10 and SEC, the clear top candidates are probably Notre Dame and UNC. UVA is probably pretty high on both lists as well because it expands both conferences footprint into large markets. Notre Dame is probably the only program that gets offered a full share. Possibly UNC too. I think all the other schools are going to be perceived on par with Oregon and UW and be offered half shares until TV contracts are negotiated again.
