I don't get the point of this thread.
So our border policy is working? I personally think it needs work but I am happy you are supporting Biden's policies.

 

I had it wrong. There aren't 2 people who have been convicted of terrorism who walked into the US from Mexico. The actual number is 1.5X higher! There have been 9 terrorist conviction from people here illegally, and only 3 have entered from Mexico.

As for the terrorists database, there are 1.13 million names on it, mostly from countries with known terrorist ties. To note, the 3 who came in from Mexico were not from one of these countries, but from Macedonia. The people we catch at the S border attempting whose name appears on the terror list aren't likely to be terrorists. They are more likely to have an unfortunate name that matches.

There's also a group, in Mexico, that doesn't want terror attacks coming from Mexico into the US. As they say, politics make strange bedfellows, and the last thing Mexican drug cartels want is US military involvement along the border. Would hurt their drug business.

Again, the number of people killed from terror attacks carried out by people who entered illegally through our S. border stands at zero. So does the number of successful attacks. And total terror convictions? Three.

 

You don't understand the OP's logic. You see, if Trump were in charge the guy arrested during Biden's watch would have been arrested even MORE and BETTER. Got it?

 

Excellent post although you do realize that logic doesn't matter to followers of the defeated former president? If he says that terrorists are crossing or are attempting to cross the Southern border they believe him. Tasheen Malik was the last noncitizen who committed an act of terrorism in the US. For those who do not recall Malik and her husband Rizwan Farook, an American citizen born in Chicago murdered 14 people in San Bernardino, California in 2015. Malik entered the US legally under a fiance visa. The 9-11 terrorists also entered the US legally under student visas although some of them may have overstayed their visas. In any event no amount of security at the Southern border would have prevented Malik or the 9-11 terrorists from entering the US. The reality is that if a foreign organization or government wanted to infiltrate terrorists into the US they almost certainly would so through legal (student, tourist or work) visas not through illegal entry at the Southern border.

On a related issue virtually all of the illegal fentanyl smuggled into the US is done so by combining the shipments of the drug with legal cargoes which enter the US at legal ports of entry. A minuscule quantity of the drug is carried across the border by migrants entering illegally yet to hear Trump and followers of MAGA nation one would think that the primary source of the drug is through illegal border crossings.

 

Just because nothing’s burning yet doesn’t mean that they’re not gathering wood for the fire. And it won’t be a fake.

Since the Treat of Guadalupe-Hildago, and the Gadsen Purchase in 1854 set the current international boundaries, at what point in time has our Southern Border with Mexico ever been "secure?" Here's a hint. The answer is never. How much wood much these potential terrorist need to collect over the decades before they finally light something?

 

Not the point. The point is that the threat assessments reported by the nations top intelligence officials in the congressional hearing, recently held on 3/12/24, were that basically the powers and countries that want to eliminate us from the earth are actively working toward that goal. Chris Wray, the Director of the FBI warned that the threats extend beyond technology, warning that “they target our freedoms, reaching inside our borders, across America, to silence, coerce, and threaten our citizens and residents.” At that point Democrats and Republicans don’t really matter. If we can’t work together to defeat our enemies, our way of life, if not our own personal safety is at risk.

 

Immigration needs to be fixed from the demand side -documenting regulated workers and very severely penalizing hirers of undocumented - in order to reduce the flow of those currently considered "illegal". Then remaining illegal crossings will be far more manageable.

That this doesn't happen is indeed a non-partisan issue; it's quietly dictated by businesses and industry.


My point is that absent taking this rational starting point, I can do without all the Trumppublican scare/hate tactics and bulls___ about a silly wall. If they're going to be no more of a solution than anyone else, they should at least not scare up votes by motivating the tribal animosities of the ignorant.
