Welcome to the gun control argument. Total obliteration of a problem is the only workable solution which, of course, is not possible.
Hiding all pornographic content behind an age-restricted paywall similar to television may not be a bad idea. Still not foolproof, but it would be a whole lot less accessible this way. Of course even that is meaningless without generalized law banning it not only across states, but across countries. As long as you can mask your IP address as part of a country that doesn’t mandate this sort of thing, nothing will really change. And VPNs are great privacy protectors, so it wouldn’t be good policy to target them.
Simply require any xxx website to block vpn access like Netflix or gambling sites. I’m no tech wizard but seems to mostly work for them.
The difference is financial incentive. Netflix does so not because they’re mandated to by law, but because it’s good for their bottom line. As long as some countries allow that sort of thing, I don’t see how it would work. Maybe I’m wrong but let’s say you even go as far as to ban pornographic sites in the US. As long as VPNs are still available, all you have to do is mask your IP address as Canadian. You’d probably have to target both VPNs and porn sites directly which is probably a no-go policy-wise.
I wouldn’t allow them to operate a connection to the US then. Asking for age verification is common sense and in my opinion convenience doesn’t overrule a communities responsibility to limit porn to adults. It’s funny that gun control advocates flip arguments on convenience when it’s porn/free speech.
Im just saying I’m not sure how it would work. But I’m far from an expert on that front. FWIW, guns and porn present similar problems in that they’re both similarly difficult to effectively regulate. But when weighing social value, they’re very different. Obviously guns have more potential to do both good and harm (and worse harm). But porn really only has the potential to do harm, especially for a developing brain.
I mean if it was in daytona then it was most likely her. Not a common name. Nice lady. Had a Mrs garret from facts of life vibe to her style lol
Whether you think it's right or wrong is basically irrelevant. It's 100% unenforceable and just more wasteful big gov spending. Maybe you make some kid waste an extra 15 seconds of his life finding porn online, but that's the extent of what this will do.
As a consumer, I am in my own home, and it is in my home. So your attempt to draw some line doesn't make any practical sense. What right does the government have to invade my privacy in my own home? And the issue isn't age restrictions or no age restrictions. It's how onerous they're making they're making it for people to confirm their ages. Requiring people to give identifying information to these companies is not about protecting children. It's about discouraging adults from accessing porn. If you don't want kids accessing porn, tell their parents to do their jobs. Yes. If you don't want your kids accessing the channel, block it.
You're arguing the government can ban expression unless the person or company forces the receiver of that expression to pay for it? You think that's constitutionally permissible? You're comparing apples to hand grenades. Different rights from different textual sources. And very different governmental interests in regulating the two.
I got a flyer from a local political leader after the elections last go round thanking me for my support on a certain issue... they already know how we vote.
Entirely unreasonable. We have movie rating systems for a reason. It is in the interest of society, even if you don’t personally have kids, to be an actual community. I shouldn’t have to do something extra to keep porn from kids. You should do something extra to get to view it.
What's unreasonable is you demanding the government infringe on my rights and privacy interests because you can't be bothered to parent your own children. Don't purchase the cable TV package with the porn channel. Don't give your children unmonitored and/or unrestricted access to the internet. Easy things for you to do as a parent to avoid these situations. As for the movie rating systems, I can watch an R movie from the comfort of my home without having to jump through a bunch of unnecessary hoops. So you sure you want to use that example?
You have to give up your right to privacy to buy cigarettes. Show an id or you don’t get them. Same for porn. And as for parenting. Keep to legal advice. You know it better.
