I made a guess at who gave the bacon before going back to look, and I'm happy to report that I nailed it.

He's also just out of HS too, baby fat and all. FTR, physically at least, AR was a grown ass man in his one year as a starter. There is a diff between being 18 and 20 or 21. DJ may always be a step slower than AR, but he'll almost certainly gain some speed as he matures - and he isn't slow now. As others have already pointed out, DJ is far more advanced as a QB at this point of his career than AR was. That is not intended as a criticism of Anthony, but it is absolutely intended as well-deserved praise for DJ.

Even AR gained speed at UF. He was listed just under 4.6 in high school before UF S&C coaches turned him into a combine freak. Can't wait to see how fast DJ is in another year.

True, but so many anoint these hot shot HS kids as saviors before they've even taken a snap against top notch college comp that it bears repeating lest they get their hopes dashed. ;)

He probably would have been close to Treon at that age. :D

Do you believe that's likely to be the case here, or is that a general observation about the wisdom of keeping our powder dry? That's an honest question...what thinkest thou?

The decision-making part is the hard one because many are accurate on their first read, but when they have to go to second and third Reid, they can’t do it quickly enough or get their feet set and that’s really what being a quarterback is all about

I have to thank Treon for beating Georgia. I was at that game, and I will always be thankful for that one

Frankly, Treon was nobody's idea of a 5 star, best in the nation QB prospect. But he beat UGA AND UT at K'ville, which is something that he will always be remembered for by those who watched him rise to those particular occasions. FTR, weren't the first two passes he ever threw at UF something like 70-yard TD passes?

Actually, according to two sites, Treon just missed the 5-star designation. A strong 4-star. And yes, I also remember those two bombs on his first two passes. We were all in shock, then we thought he would be All-World...for a little while.

Thanks for the info, he was a bit more highly regarded than I realized. But Lagway, at this point at least, has got to be highest ranked QB prospect at UF since - well a long, long time.

I have no idea until I see him play against a good quality team. If he tears up the Vols or someone of that ilk I'll probably start getting my hopes up.

I was at the game when he came in. Don’t quite think they were 70 yards bt they were over 50 if I recall. To be fair though, it was week 1 or 2 against tune up teams.

John Brantley, who was also the Gatorade Offensive Player of the Year. The previous Florida player to earn such titles was Brock Berlin.

It's pretty much impossible to determine if either of those players would have really succeeded at UF, had circumstances been different in some way or another. In hindsight, Brantley wasn't exactly a perfect fit for the SO offense and may have been a little injury prone, if I recall correctly. Berlin was just straight-up beaten out by a better QB. Brock had the hype; Rexy had the talent. How DJ stacks up in comparison to those two will be fascinating to see as his career unfolds. Obviously, I hope that he's a lot closer career-wise to Rex than JB.

AR has to no trophys to his name. What is his Gator playing legacy? Doing enough to get highly recruited but not getting injured even though he is injury prone. This is how DL will distinguish himself from AR.
