Correct. Wake was a borderline q1 loss on their home floor. And we slaughtered Pitt on a neutral site. We had close losses to 19 and 31. We are 1-2 in q1, 2-1 on q2, have no home losses or q3-4 losses. That’s not an elite resume any stretch, but a pretty solid one with a chance to really boost it quality wins in league play. Not enough quality wins for my liking, but zero bad losses. Also worth saying all 3 of our losses were shorthanded. This is a tournament team. It’s also one built for a potentially good tourney run. We are relatively experienced, balanced, and deep. We have lots of guards who can get very hot. We also have great length in the post. Those two things can cause massive matchup problems for opponents. Toss in our elite rebounding, especially on the offensive end, and we would be a tough out on a neutral floor. To the thread, my expectation annually is a tourney invite. Should always be at Florida. For Golden’s sake, if he is ever gonna get some recruiting traction (so we don’t have to depend upon the portal for the majority of our starting lineup each year) and get more buy in from the fan base, I hope we can get a couple of legit q1 wins in conference play, get ourselves in that 5-6 seed range, and make it to the second weekend. If Kugel figures out how to play with these guys, I think that’s very possible.
He is on the correct track. He made some nice "extra" passes today that should have resulted in baskets and assists for him. His dunk off of an alley-oop pass was special.
NCAA success is a dumb metric. Stuff happens. Really good teams get upset. So so teams get lucky breaks. The body of work getting to the NCAAs is more important to me.
So, by your own prognostication, you only view this season as a success is only if we win 2 games in the NCAAs?
That's just @aka's personal level. Some would say 1 win and some would say just earning a decent seed and getting there (like the kids already have). For me, it was 1 win with 2 wins being beyond my early season expectations. I think more than 1 win is reasonable now . . . but so much depends on who is in the bracket and what happens in other games.
above .500 in conference................ make the tourney.......................... avoid 1 & done in SECt.................. make the round of 32....................
A lot of us should feel pretty good about this season already. TG is really likable in his interviews.
He's smart, incisive, funny, and charismatic. He's going to be a great recruiter, especially now that he's got an impressive season behind him. The future is bright. Golden, even.
I love this team already. I believe they are elite, and on a good night can play with anybody. But if we don’t start making free throws down the stretch, we’re gonna lose an ugly one. Gotta make those freebies from the stripe.
Just one problem, when coach is struggling, say with a zone defense, he looks so dang young, I wanna grab him up and spank him! LOL Really happy for coach and the job he is doing - Thank you for making BBall fun again coach!
