In my opinion, which is almost useless as I never saw Jarvis play, but I think he came to hog town and saw our other bigs and didn't think he was going to play all that much.

I wouldn't have thought we'd be as good as we are with Kugel not living up to expectations.
Also, as for how we did...keep in mind that the SEC was really good this year.

he was a great get at both forward positions. He coul drive, dunk, defend and shoot the rock and was physically ready. For depth, scoring and defense, we could have had a great small forward that would have allowed us not to play small ball.
Think combating Tennessee, Alabama and Kentucky, with size and skills to our starting five, we would have at least been 2nd second in the conference, water over the dam though.

I'm ruthlessly objective when money is involved.

Also, my superstitions tend to go in the other direction. I'm afraid of talking up my Gators for fear it will jinx them.

Texting with a couple of Auburn grad buddies a while ago, they both picked Auburn to win the SECT. The other guy in the group - a Georgia Tech grad - picked the Gators. I just said that I hoped we could get past Georgia since we've already beaten them twice in two close games.

We’ll never know where he would have slotted.

I did suspect he arrived and felt he wasn’t going to start over Samuel and maybe even saw the freshmen as his equals. Although I’m not basing that on any particular knowledge, did he ever actually practice?

In the end it worked out, if he could have played some 3 it might have been interesting having some experience/consistency, but we’ll never know. I think it unlikely he’d take minutes from Richard and Kugel who seem to get the most at the 3. I also like that Haugh got the minutes he did at the 4. That should really help him in year 2, if he was riding the bench instead he’d still be coming in green next year or maybe even thinking of transferring for pt. Instead he’s heading into this off-season a possible starter or at least key 6th man type player depending on how Golden wants to work his lineups.

Given our experience & talent compared to the rest of the SEC (data from barttorvik.com), did we under/over achieve?

am I reading that right…. Florida and Bama are the two “least talented” teams in the conference?

I think it might be how well they did given their talent and UF and Bama underachieved.

Vandy and Mizzou achieved about what would be expected with their talent. Which is really bad.

All due respect, that thread was from December, before the SEC season even started. ;)
OTOH - thanks for hailing it. Mine was the first response:

I second this post. The talent graph is weird.

Not how I'm reading it. Are they really rating talent on a sliding scale? I'm not confident in that level of sophistication.

That's how I'm reading it. Here's all of the high school ratings for Bama's players that average double digit minutes: Sears 3*, Pringle 3*, Griffen 4*, Nelson NR, Estrada NR, Wrightsell NR, Walters 4*, Stevenson 4*.

Looking back before the season started I would say we over achieved. But after the first few games and seeing the talent TG brought in and performance up to this point we have underachieved. This team could easily have 4-5 more wins than they have and a top 10 ranking.

Doesn’t matter now though. They still have top 10 potential and talent. Just cut out the bone head mistakes and hit your free throws cause honestly the sky is the limit for this team. Great and exciting year. Love this coach. GO GATORS!!!
