Indiana has the best record in the Big 10 and are currently ranked 28th in the country by D1Softball. Gators can't take them lightly.
If they have a quality pitcher, it will be a struggle because in spite of our gaudy offensiev numbers we have struggled mightily against really good pitchers.
Indiana has a team ERA of 1.51 and their two workhorse pitchers have an ERA of 1.23 & .071. They have given up 4 or more runs in only 6 of their 23 games.
They played 3 ranked opponents and are 1-2 so far against the top 25 Oregon w 7-5 Clemson L 2-3 Arizona L 10-9 regardless of this record they still are a very strong team and tough competition for our young team
Georgia looks to me currently to be the best team in the SEC. Bama goes to Athens this weekend. Would like to see Bama win two. LSU is undefeated but have had some close games with some mediocre teams. If our girls continue to improve, I think they will be in the mix in the end.
Ariel hasn’t received enough recognition for her work at 3B so far. I don’t think she had much experience at the position before arriving at Florida and she has been very good defensively. Would like to see her draw a few more walks as the season progresses, but she squares up a lot of balls. Cassidy needs more ABs, plain and simple. And those ABs need to come at the expense of Mia. I’d like to see Walsh return to starting at 2B. Mia is for sure a better defender at 2B than Walsh, but Mia has completely noncompetitive ABs. Thus far she hasn’t hit the ball hard and she doesn’t walk. IMO, at this point she best helps the team as a late inning defensive replacement and as a pinch runner. Cassidy, however, does hit the ball hard, does have competitive at bats, and does walk. I’d like to see the DP position opened up for her to get the opportunities she has earned. And now that I have posted this, I fully expect for Mia to go 3-3 with 2 homers and a double tonight.
Cassidy is starting tonight at second base. I have watched her play for at least four years and I have never seen her in the infield. If she can pull this off, I'm on board.
You may be thinking of an incident at Auburn a couple of years ago. Eventually the offender was moved or ejected.
Aubrey Monroe is one of my absolute favorite Gator softball players of all time. I am beginning to believe that Jocelyn Erickson may be (dare I even think it) even better. She is both a monster at the plate and behind it;
