This is what it should have been from the beginning. Third party paying for the Name and Likeness. It’s morphed into pay the player to play

Fans can donate if they want to see figure swimming. They already give billions for football.

It’s been pay for play for decades. It’s just more visible now and fans can’t stick their heads in the sand and pretend any longer.

Yet schools with no football still have athletic programs. It’s just another bs excuse to not sign the checks. It may be complicated and take years to perfect but it’s not like a mission to Mars, it’s very doable.

I agree with everything except it may be sustainable. Really rich boosters aren’t worried about a few million dollars here or there possibly. It may continue indefinitely and I’ll quit watching just as I did the nfl. The nfl obviously doesn’t need me at all as they are making more than ever. Nebraska and Virginia tech have sucked forever and their fans still show up. Who knows, some of us may go fishing on Saturday more often than in the past but does that really matter.

The other sports need to find their own boosters.

But surely you see the calculations of Universities here: Fans have paid for all of the above except NIL for years and years (and for a handful of schools like Bama they've been doing that all along too), why wouldn't they pay for just that one more thing (NIL)? Surely the fans want to have a winner, right?

Football does cover football at the large majority of schools. Unfortunately, whatever is leftover + the much smaller amount that Basketball contributes does not cover the bills of the entire athletic department for all but a handful of major universities. The reality is that the schools rely on the football program to fund every other sports program that they have including the women's sports programs that they are mandated by law to provide.

Theyve been paying the players all along but Fred Taylor said 50k was what he got from Georgia. 50k won’t get a water boy anymore. Bama may have been getting entire recruiting classes for 2-3 mil, now that’s a hs qb, not a class.

How do athletic programs without football fund athletic programs? Maybe tge girls softball team doesn’t get such a nice stadium or a booster could fund it or not have it.

I'm not sure you want Gary Condron directing all his money to the sport he favors the most.

Most rely on the College or University to back fill the Athletic Department's losses. Ever seen rec fees on your tuition bill? They have them at UF but they don't go to the UAA. However, schools that don't have a separate athletics entity may spend some of those fees for intercollegiate sports. Additionally, schools that have no football program don't have to add a plethora of women's sports in order to balance their Title 9 requirements.

If you believe the Universities monkey math accounting, only a handful of the major Universities have annual windfalls and most operate with revenue shortfalls.

He can do what he wants and we po folks can deal with it. If he likes girls jumping on trampolines, I’ll turn in for roll call.

That’s how it should be. The unio is making money hand over fist and if they want Sally to play , they should provide those extracurricular activities for the student body. The student body is paying for it all along with alumni.

    Then raise tuition? Reduce costs?

Almost $200m annually should easily cover a bunch of sports teams.

Boosters at UF have specifically designated funding for many, if not most of the facilities for various sports at UF. Condron, Dizney, Pressly, Ring, Heavener, Hawkins aren't names just pulled out of air.

If you want to have a top 10 class, a school would need to spend around $20 million for 25 players. That is around $800,000 per player on average, but you still have to pay your current stars and veterans as they have earned it. So a school would need to spend at a minimum. ($800,000 X 85) players $68mil per year to recruit and keep top talent every year.

Bama never had an NIL program like that, and unfortunately all the money the football program brings in is already spoken for and spent.

Who is going to keep spending like that? Hope we have a lot of billionaires.

It will take a lot of generous people for this to be sustainable.

As it should be . If you want it, pay for it. Don’t expect football to pay.
