The latest in education is parents using cell phones and laptops to watch and listen to the classroom in real time. They text their children, and sometimes demand that the teacher interrupt the class to call them to explain something. What's wrong with these people? I cannot imagine being a teacher and dealing with this crap. Too many people believe that the world revolves around them.

I’m a High School Teacher. Here’s How the Parents of My Students Make It Impossible for Them to Focus.

Then we as fans should be able to buzz into coach Napier or coach Golden from time to time, just to let 'em have a piece of our mind.

That definitely takes “parents rights” to its logical extreme. I don’t get why they can’t enforce the cell phone rules. Just give the kid detention for using the phone during class. That it’s the parent on the other end is zero excuse and irrelevant. Such a parent is a bad/obnoxious influence anyway.

Did any of these psycho parents with all this free time consider… homeschooling?

No, they always say their kids are their priority, but they can’t homeschool because they both have to work to maintain their lifestyle.

They pretty much stopped doing detentions in my county maybe 20 to 25 years ago because working parents complained it was an inconvenience to them to get their kids instead of them taking the bus.

It could put kids at risk if there’s no one available to come pick them up. I can remember walking a looong way to get home after middle school detention.
My dad could have picked me up but I much preferred the long walk as he was a devout adherent to the non-Dr Spock teaching of spare the rod, spoil the child.

Lots of teachers are pedophiles. Glad to see teachers being monitored. Joe Biden is Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew went to Epstein Island. Obama smoked crack and wrote about the gay fantasies he has every day.

Meant to say Biden is a pedophile. Amy Biden blames Joe for hyper sexualizing her. Says she wouldn't take a shower till Joe fell asleep. Joe sniffing kids hair, fondling their breasts etc. Keeping an eye on teachers is good, many are whack jobs

My youngest just finished high school. A few times a year he’d text his mom to come get him cuz he was “having a bad day”. I wonder if he ever figured out we just laughed our asses off and hit delete?

I remember my oldest daughter giving me the “my stomach hurts” line in elementary when I was dropping her off. I mentally hit delete as well lol.

I absolutely agree. Our youngest (36) just had her first child. A beautiful human being brought into a world in, to my weary eyes, decline. Homo sapiens is an invasive species slowly destroying the planet. Obviously, I'm very pessimistic about the future. I've strongly encouraged my daughter and her husband to make sure their son learns self defense, becomes well acquainted with the use of firearms, and learns how to be self sufficient. We're leaving them undeveloped land in NC for that very purpose. They think I'm worrying too much, so I've dropped the matter. The land is still theirs.

My son was going to get a music education degree so he could perform but also teach (in secondary schools). Year 3 in college he told me he wanted to change his major. Why? I asked
“Parents”. He replied. “The kids are great but I cannot see myself putting up with the parents for the next few decades.”

Smart move. The world doesn’t need any more discouraged teachers.

My oldest graduated from a large public HS here 2 years ago. They completely lost the cell phone battle.

Parents screamed about the kids needing them for safety and the school caved. My daughter told me that kids were literally watching YouTube in class with air pods in.

The schools are partly to blame when that happens, but the idiot parents make my skin boil.

Kids are one step ahead of parents. If their parents take away their cell phone, their friends give them old phones that can still access the web.

You want to know why so many kids are not prepared for life? Look no further than the parents.

It takes a special person who can deal with the crazies. My DIL is a 4th grade teacher and she is happy this year because although she has a class full of kids who are not working at grade level, none of the parents are difficult to deal with.

I tend to not take 'things are worse for parents and kids these days ...' complaints too seriously. But cell phones in school ... yeah, that's a problem. My daughter is a teacher and it's a constant issue. Like Tilly's school, her school has lost the battle. "you can't tell me I can't call my mom ...."
Her school is not in a wealthy county, or even average. So they don't have a lot of very involved parents.

Why do you not take these claims seriously? Maybe they are not merely complaints. Bullies and predators now have 24/7 access to kids. Digital devices are affecting young people's brains in extraordinary ways. FOMO, imposter syndrome, etc. are becoming real threats to teens. Depression and anxiety are more prevalent.

Rising Rates of Adolescent Depression in the United States: Challenges and Opportunities in the 2020s
Rates of adolescent depression increased from 8.1% in 2009 to 15.8% in 2019, a relatively larger increase than reported in a previous examination in the NSDUH from 2005 to 2014(3). These findings are consistent with other recent cohort studies in the United States and the world in highlighting a potential adolescent mental health crisis.

    Teen suicide is increasing rapidly.
