Let’s just play the what IF game for a moment though… I think we all expect Mertz to build off his last season, be the starter, Lagway to have packages, hard for Freshman in the SEC all that… but what IF he’s just so good … like freaky good… that you can’t keep him off the field. What do you do if you’re Napier? If he’s transcendent- do you bench a B+ mertz for a A+ Lagway?
You do whatever you can to win the maximum number of games. But the real question is likely what do you do with Lagway when his upside is A+ and his downside is C-, while Mertz is a consistent B+. You bring Lagway along as rapidly as possible to achieve the above goal while not throwing him into his first start versus UGA.
Not everybody is a freak like The Pillsbury Throw Boy. The Round Mound of Touchdown. The Abominable Throwman. RIP Jared Lorenzen.
From watching a couple vids of him working out, pretty sure that’s all lean muscle mass. Plus he’s been working specifically on his speed and acceleration. I’m not worried about his 241.
Who gave this post a disagree bacon? This is right on the money. People forget what a raw high school QB AR was. We saw his junior clips and hoped to see him turn into a decent HS QB but he barely improved. He was just a big, fast guy who happened to play QB.
Wouldn't be surprised if he turns into a more potent running threat. Looks very explosive. He may not have had speed coaching up to this point. When he does take off, he looks like a running back.
You play both at the same time, in shotgun and the center decides which QB to snap it to. That’s the obvious winning solution
I'd ask Coach Spurrier's advice, frankly.......hell.......he's won more games than any other head coach in Gator history....and is still on the payroll here!
