The NQS Beat Goes On - Top Friday Night Scores:

    LSU 198.425 Raising Cane's River Center/Baton Rouge
    Alabama 198.000 Home Quad
    Utah 197.875 at Arizona
    Kentucky 197.800 at North Carolina

LSU's score counted as an away meet, but the meet was held in the Raising Cane's River Center which is in Baton Rouge. The tiggers 198.425 score drops a 197.2250 away score thereby raising LSU's NQS significantly. It completely sucks and I'm ticked off about it, but that is the way the meet is being scored on Road to Nationals. I hope some team officially challenges this meet being counted as an away score. The other 3 teams in the quad had to travel to Baton Rouge. Sight unseen as the meet wasn't televised, LSU would likely not have received this high of a score in a true away meet, just too much Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde to do it. The end result is LSU's NQS score should be 197.910, not 198.125. Raising Cane's River Center in Baton Rouge is 7 miles south of the LSU campus and isn't a neutral site which would be considered to be an away meet for NQS scoring.

Alabama moved ahead of Michigan when the wolverines scored 197.075 in a home win over Georgia. In the tide's quad win, the judges sent Luisa Blanco out of her bama home career with a 10.0 on vault which was deserved and a 10.0 on floor which was not deserved. Blanco missed her landing on her first pass dragging her front foot backwards for a .05 to .1 deduction, not a 10.0. It also resulted in bama having a 198.000 home score.

California, Florida, Michigan State, and UCLA perform today.

Sunday, Oklahoma is at Arkansas which will be shown on SECN+ and Denver is in a quad meet at Missouri.

The Gators want to drop their 197.475 away score at Georgia when performing in the Nebraska quad meet tonight. The higher the score, the better:

No. 4 Florida at Ameritas Master’s Classic - Florida Gators

    Quad Opponents:

Eastern Michigan turned in its season-best of 196.45 last Sunday in a loss at Kent State. Raisa Boris has competed all-around in every meet this season, turning in her high of 39.525 at Kent State.

Lindenwood set its program record of 197.075 to win the Tennessee Collegiate Classic on Jan. 19 in Lebanon, Tenn. Sophomore Jaly Jones' season-high 39.275 took second in the same meet. This is the second UF-Lindenwood meeting this season as UF won the Mizzou to the Lou quad on Feb. 16 and Lindenwood was fourth. Lindenwood announced Dec. 4, 2023 that 10 sports, including women's gymnastics, would be dropped at the end of the 2023-24 academic year.

Nebraska set its season high of 197.125 last Sunday in a home quad versus Illinois State, North Carolina and SE Missouri. Emma Spence has competed all-around in all but two meets this season, posting her season-high of 39.475 on Jan. 20.

    Series Record:
    First meeting with Eastern Michigan
    Florida leads Lindenwood 2-0
    Florida leads Nebraska 22-10

    Florida - 197.700
    Nebraska - 197.150
    Lindenwood - 196.325
    Eastern Michigan - 193.600

Coach Rowland used several girls who hadn't seen much action this season, plus had Skylar Draser in all 4 events. Victoria Nguyen won the All-Around with a 39.625, Anya Pilgrim & Skylar Draser finished 3rd at 39.450. We did not score well on the floor tonight, as nobody got above 9.875. Leann Wong did not compete on the floor. Sloane Blakeney had the night off, for whatever reason.

Next up is a Quad meet at home with Iowa State, North Carolina State & LIU coming to town. Next Friday at 6:45 on SEC+

    No inside information.

Just my opinion, CJR gave Sloane a week off, Leanne partial rest, added to Morgan in hopes of getting her to high performance on 2 events for post season, and Alyssa back on bars for the first time since she fell in the opening meet to get her back on track. UF also performed an exhibition on vault. Exhibitions should be done more often on all events. CJR took the opportunity to give her little used gymnasts performance experience over striving for the highest score.

EDIT: UF performed an exhibition on all 4 events at UNL.

Dr. Sam watched the meet. She speculated correctly going in that UF would use some different lineups for the meet since the regular season SEC schedule was completed. During the meet, she also questioned several low scores stating she did not get the scoring. Apparently the 197.700 may have been a combination of different lineups plus a few questionable judge scores.

Response received from my inquiry to Road to Nationals as to why the LSU quad in Baton Rouge is considered to be an away meet although the location is only 7 miles from the LSU campus and the crowd was obviously an LSU home crowd:

I can certainly understand that point of view. But officially, any meet not held by the team is an away meet. Even if it is only just off campus. A lot of the better team's regularly take advantage of that fact.
At some point it might change if the team's get too carried away with it, but for now, that's what we're stuck with.

Subject: LSU Home/Away Meet on 3/8
I don't understand why LSU's home quad on 3/8 is considered an away meet, neutral meet either. The Raising Cane's River Center is located on the Mississippi River in downtown Baton Rouge 7 miles south of the LSU campus. The 3 other teams in the quad had to travel to Baton Rouge. There is no way the crowd was anything other than an LSU home crowd. This meet should be listed as a home meet and the NQS score calculated accordingly. By my calculations, LSU should have a 197.910 NQS, not 198.125.

Utah had a similar situation in their second meet of the season when a meet was sponsored by Sprouts Farmers Market close to the Utah campus. That too was counted as an away meet. The media in Utah described the Red Rocks as "staying local".

Any chance of UF chasing down LSU went out the window with the LSU meet in Baton Rouge which is ruled as an away meet. I can see how this may have impacted UF's goal of striving to perform .1 better in every meet, hence the 197.700 with the out of norm lineups.

If I'm California fan, I'd be ticked off when I wake up to the realization that LSU was allowed to use this type of location scoring ploy to pass and put distance in the NQS over my golden bears team which should be #2 in the NQS, as bought and paid for by the PAC 12 judging. :)

    EDIT:

California had the Week 10 high score of 198.550 at Stanford, PAC 12 judging.

Oklahoma had an off week at Arkansas scoring 198.350. The only questionable score I noticed was a floor score being graded a 10.0 when the gymnast's chest was parallel to the floor on a landing, a .05 to .1 deduction.

Next week in UF's last regular season home meet, the Gators have the opportunity to drop 197.475 after having dropped 197.425 and replacing with 197.700 after week 10.

    UF's Week 10 NQS:

    197.820

It will be senior night for our departing Gators. However, these ladies will have the opportunity to perform at home in the Gainesville Regional following the SEC Tournament Championship which is being held in New Orleans.

    16 Minnesota 197.055

    UF's NQS Through 9 Meets in 2023 & 2024:

    2023: 3 Florida 197.920
    2024: 4 Florida 197.820

Both teams scored 197.7000 in the 9th meet of each season, 2023 at Oklahoma and 2024 at Nebraska. In the final meet of the 2023 regular season, UF scored 198.1750 in a quad at North Carolina State with Texas Women's and Washington. UF concludes the 2024 regular season in a quad at home with North Carolina State, Iowa State, and LIU.

After scoring 198.1750 at NC State in 2023, UF had a 198.015 NQS headed into the SEC Tourney Championship. To match that 2023 NQS, UF would have to score 198.450 in the Gators final regular season home meet.

College Gym News - The Dismount - Week 10:

The Dismount: Week 10 - College Gym News

Oklahoma Posts Best-Ever NQS in Gymnastics

Same story, different week for the Sooners as they rolled to their seventh score of 198 or better on the road at Arkansas. With a floor 10 from Jordan Bowers and a first career perfect 10 from Ava Siegfeldt on beam, Oklahoma built upon the record-setting NQS it had last week, upping its mark to a whopping 198.430. Can the Sooners do any wrong?

Hope I had something to do with CGN pointing out that LSU's away meet was in Baton Rouge:

    The 198 NQS Club

Joining the Sooners above the 198 mark in NQS are LSU and California, who both posted massive totals over the weekend to set program-record marks in NQS. Haleigh Bryant was masterful for the Tigers, starting her evening with back-to-back 10s on vault and bars en route to a single-season gym slam and an insane 39.925 school record all-around total. LSU’s 198.425 total is a program high on the road (even though it still competed in Baton Rouge), and its 49.695 NQS on floor is the highest any team has ever had on the event.

On the West Coast, the Golden Bears earned a new program best total of 198.550 as eMjae Frazier matched her school record all-around total of 39.825. Frazier edged teammate Mya Lauzon’s 39.775 and perfect 10 on beam who matched the highest score of the night with Stanford’s Chloe Widner who reached perfection for the first time with a 10 on beam as well. California and LSU had never reached an NQS of 198 before this weekend.

Michigan State is a dangerous team headed into post season, scored over 198 with all 9.9s+ from its deep lineup:

The Spartans had no perfect scores in posting a giant 198.150, using a barrage of 9.900s from the entire team to set a new season high. Skyla Schulte did come close, ending her all-around performance with a near-perfect 9.975 on floor. Michigan State still looks like the Big Ten’s best bet for a nationals qualifier.
