Not sure that it really matter where a public company is headquartered, in that it is pretty easy to purchase equity in the company even if it is not based in the US (i.e., a fair amount of the ownership of InBev is likely American). Obviously, there is a marketing benefit, which is why Budweiser had Trump push how many Americans they employ. But I don't know that it really matters that InBev is technically Belgian, despite huge presence in the US, Brazil, South Africa, Mexico, etc.
Ok. I didn’t know that. Still American owned which is my point. FWIW I don’t consider them a craft beer. Craft beer - Wikipedia.
You're absolutely right... no one is getting free credit cards... they're getting prepaid DEBIT CARDS. Like that freaking changes the fact they they are getting free money... Migrants in New York City will receive prepaid debit cards, not credit cards, for designated goods
Can you read? Per YOUR link, the debit cards are ONLY good for food and baby supplies at certain retailers.
One of my many problems with Trump during his presidency was the obvious insider trading he was engaged in. The Kodak deal was beyond obvious. Analysis: Trump's perfect storm of a Kodak deal gets new scrutiny
And an update: South Dakota Governor and rumored possibility for VP is out there filming cringy infomercials for the businesses of Republican donors. Apparently, she is a big fan of Texas dentists and not South Dakota dentists. Now, she is also endorsing coffee shops and shoe stores as well. This is all totally normal stuff.
I know this will at least irk one poster. WOW, Just WOW!!! A brand-new never used before phenomenon was started with Trump.. Politicians pandering to those who support them. Never heard of that before!!!!
Yeah, just a little pay for play. No big deal. Good take. My personal favorite historical example is the TV ads that Mario Cuomo filmed for a hardware store in Iowa City.
I guess it is, since you are accepting that businesses can just buy endorsements for their business (above competing businesses) from active politicians for money.
Good for the goose, good for the gander? We really need a lot to change in our political leaders as a country. Both sides are truly different sides of the same coin. I'm willing to admit that, is the left?
I guess my second favorite Democratic Politician cutting ads for donor businesses while in office was that time when Georgia Governor and candidate for President Carter cut an advertisement for a New Mexico pottery store. The problem with reflexively going to both sides as a defense is when there isn't an example on the other side.
Free money is free money.....the scam has been going on ever since food stamps began. Folks trade their free food and baby supplies for a 5th of liquor or just flat out sell the card for cash.
You don't believe Biden defying the law and pandering to the younger generation and wiping out student loans is an example? Or the pandering by the left to Unions? Or to the green startup companies that have mostly gone broke? Same song, different verse!
There was a weird tax advantage to moving companies overseas. Bud basically bought InBev and made to corporate headquarters out of the country. A drugstore did the same thing but moved the headquarters back because of bad publicity and maybe congress passed a law that only us corporations could bill Medicare.(I know they threatened too. Don’t know if it passed) Most of the breweries for Budweiser are owner operated and they also brew most of the craft beers you can buy.
Do I think trying to get votes by policy changes is the same as endorsing businesses for money while in office? No. That seems pretty obviously different.
Uh.... When did the elections happen? Is Trump already President again? And at the end of the day, what really is the difference between pandering with policy changes that help your voters vs endorsing companies that cater to your voters? I'm not trying to be a wisea$$ here, I wonder how you view the difference?
