Say Florida wins against Vandy and UK loses versus UT in Knoxville on Saturday. In a head to head match-up we would have identical SEC records and each team won once head to head. The next tiebreaker is percentage record against the #1 seed UT. Florida is 0-1 losing at Knoxville and UK would be 0-2 losing home and away. By the tiebreak rules we go to the next tiebreak because 0-1 is 0% and 0-2 is also 0%. Not fair but those are the rules.

If Alabama is seed #2 UK wins the tiebreak because they were 1-0 winning at home and we were 1-1.

If Auburn is the #2 seed we were both 1-0 against them so we go to seed #3. If Alabama is seed #3 we lose the tiebreak and if South Carolina we were both 0-1 so we would go to the #4 seed and that is Alabama and we lose.

The top four teams not UK or Florida in the SEC are UT, Alabama, Auburn, and South Carolina. UK and Florida played Auburn once at home and South Carolina once away. UK played UT home and away and UF only played them away. UK played Alabama at home and we played them home and away. UK had three home games and two away games while we had 2 home games and three away games. Looks like UF had a harder schedule.

I think the two best spots if you aren’t Tennessee are 3 and 6. I know 6 makes you play an extra game, but Tennessee is on another level and not meeting them until Sunday is optimal.

Thanks for the breakdown, Lurker. I say screw it, let's go get as many wins as we can. If that means playing one day earlier, so be it. Not like our guys will be tired the next day, right @murphree_hall? Besides, many times teams get their wings in an early game and have a better sense of flow than those who sat and watched the first round or two. This is often true for play-in winners in the NCAA tournament, which often go on to win in the first round.

I say get the highest seed you can and if it gives you a matchup against Tennessee, so be it. When in doubt, go with Ric Flair. To be the man, you got to beat the man. I want to see how we stack up against UT now.

If things play out like I think they will (UK loses at UT and UF wins at Vandy) UK and UF will have identical SEC records, 1-1 head to head UF will have had a more difficult SEC schedule but UK will be a #2 seed with a double bye and UF will be a #6 seed with a single bye.

Just how the tiebreakers work out.

If UK loses, they pretty much need a miracle to get the #2 seed.

I actually think Kentucky is going to fall to 5 barring major upsets.

    Projected
    1. Tennessee 15-3
    2. Alabama 13-5 (Alabama over Auburn as both 0% vs. UT; both 100% vs. USC, both 0% vs. UK, but ALA 50% vs. UF compared to AU at 0%)
    3. Auburn 13-5
    4. South Carolina 12-6 (USC over UF/UK as 100% vs. UF/UK compared to UK 33% vs. USC/UF and UF 33% vs. USC/UK)
    5. Kentucky 12-6 (UK over UF after 3-way-tie broken as both 0% vs. UT and UK is 100% vs. ALA compared to UF at 50%)
    6. Florida 12-6

I'm pretty sure I've done the math correct on all of this, but maybe not. I hope so because it'd be funny to see Kentucky have to play Thursday too.

Yes, they definitely will be. We're the 6th seed unless Auburn loses.

And when they lose tickets will be really cheap.

I would be fine with us playing on Thursday as we would have deserved it. This team has not learned to finish the job. We will go as far as Dillingham, Sheppard, and Reeves can take us.

We have a coach who doesn't value the SEC tournament...you know Im not a fan since 2015.

I mentioned this on the other thread, but while I believe your interpretation is correct, the SEC site actually expresses it differently. For two teams:

    For three teams:

I can't think of a logical reason they would express these two matters differently if they weren't intended to be perceived differently, but it's pretty clear that 0-1 is a better won-lost record than 0-2 (bias still applies in terms of situation, but this time it would be in our favor).

But we all know the SEC isn't always logical.

[EDIT: I also believe that this type of tie-breaker has never been applied, so there is no precedent for it]

Kentucky has been getting better as of late. Royal Blue and Stinky Orange will be prevalent in the Bridgestone Arena. They know from last year that they need a positive experience in Nashville, don’t count them out.

DDCAT, I think Cal knows this is do or die time as all Kentucky will show up in Nashville as I see them every year. a poor showing here and half the fan base is going to go ballistic. But would your AD can him?
