Funny that I was just about to head over to Walgreen's when I read this article. Too soon, I know. Psilocybin and MDMA have already earned this designation.

A clinical trial’s encouraging results won US Food and Drug Administration breakthrough therapy status for an LSD formulation to treat generalized anxiety disorder, Mind Medicine Inc. announced Thursday. The biopharmaceutical company is developing the drug.

“A breakthrough designation is a recognition that a drug has demonstrated evidence of clinical efficacy in meeting an unmet medical need with morbidity and mortality associated with it,” said Dr. Daniel Karlin, assistant professor of psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston and chief medical officer for MindMed.

Single dose of LSD provides immediate, lasting anxiety relief, study says | CNN.

I only took LSD once but I certainly wasn’t anxious while on it.

Weird that medical uses for psychedelics are being studied with government backing, but DEA still maintains all of them as Schedule I (meaning no legitimate medical use).

My wife frequently complains I am too relaxed and laid back. Now I know why. I know it changed some brain things in me and I took from it that everything is ok and everything is going to be ok. Haven’t had any since the mid 70’s.

My very limited knowledge of such things is they can sometimes have a benefit, but they cross the blood brain barrier and aren’t something to be trifled with. Also with some percent the outcomes could be very bad.

The studies on the use of psychedelics on things like PTSD have been super promising.

Blood-blain-barrier penetration is required for efficacy against nearly all neuro targets, by definition.

You have shared some of your story and I don’t dispute anything you say here. Can only relay my limited (N=1) experience. I don’t regret a minute of it.

My recollection of this discussion was from my kids psychiatrist and was articulating some of the issues to some of those classes of drugs. That doesn’t mean it is applicable to all or even most.

Quite a few years ago he mentioned that some small but non-trivial percent of pot users would experience a “psychotic break”, particularly among those more prone to certain mental illnesses, that could lead to longer term issues. At the time there was little out there to back it up, but in the last couple of years I am starting to see more evidence of that.

He seems to stay very abreast of evidence in the psychiatric field and there are numerous times he will mention something that seems kind of out there but eventually turns out to be supported.

That thought occurred to me when I posted that. I don’t remember the exact context. Perhaps it is the ease at which it passes.

I just did a google and found this.

That was from monkey trials. I think it illustrates the point. That may be a good outcome for some, but perhaps not for others.

As far as THC psychosis it’s real and on the rise, and not just in people felt to be at risk.
The much higher concentration of ThC compared to years ago and the removal of CBD from strains seem to part of the issue. CBd appears to be neuro protective from psychotic features.

All the studies I’ve are micro dosing. Obviously I haven’t read every trial.
I do know quite a few people how have had great success with ketamine treatment and would recommend it to anyone with resistant depression. It likely saved the lives of at least two people I know very well.

There might not be any studies on it. In fact, I just texted the guy & he tells me for legal reasons, he does not disclose dosage on his pod. But, I know he has patients TRIP. They do in this doc as well which I think is still on netflix , if I recall correctly.

Just checked. It is still there. Ep. 2. THEY TRIP!!!! dude "dies", becomes dirt & then grows into a tree, as a tree sees his wife & kid walk by.....&, he was pretty much cured. 'at ain't micro-dosing. guy had really struggled since he was 7 yo. 1 trip & boom, so much better. beautiful story. highly recommend. He sez every day since the trip, is the best of his life.

I had a friend who at times grew his own Shrooms. He swears he could go off of his SSRI for a while after using them. I never tried them, but another friend did.

The thing about psychedelics is they don’t have the same effect on everybody and there will be some that it will turn out badly.

I think kids Pdoc said similar things about Ketamine. Someone recommended to my kid. Pdoc said In some people it can have a pretty negative effect. In some places that administer it may not be the most trained people.

I think it was an emergency person who administered too much ketamine to a person and they died and he was on trial.
