Adam Schiff has been in Congress for 23 years. Steve Garvey has never held office but got a lot of fame for his baseball career.
Now they'll compete for Dianne Feinstein's former seat.

Schiff and Garvey will advance to California Senate general election , CNN projects | CNN Politics

Classic California statewide race: a not terribly likable career politician for the Dems, and because California obviously isn’t electing anyone to statewide office based on a track record of conservative governance, a random famous person who happens to be a Republican.

Pretty much spot on. It'll make for a few months of semi-interesting coverage, but the "R" behind Garvey's name will be his downfall in CA for a state-wide office. Then again, Garvey's Popeye-sized forearms did wonders for him on the diamond for a long time.

There's a whole bunch of cocktail waitresses from Steve's playing days that could sink his campaign real fast.

Cali will vote for the mendacious one of course.
Schiff wants open borders and he wants your guns. He's funded by and supplies Ukrainian arms dealers.

I prefer career politicians to the line up of celebrity morons the right wing offers up like the God awful Auburnt coach.

Sort of like when they recalled Gray Davis and elected governor Arnold?

Garvey made multiple baseball references in his speech last night including this gem

"What you all are feeling tonight is what it's like to hit a walk-off home run. Kind of like San Diego in 1984."

A scriptwriter wouldn't even come up with something that brazen and cheesy.

Garvey has been quiet about actual issues:

Garvey should avoid debating Schiff. It will not go well.

I know you know that’s not what the opinion was about but excellent attempt to distract.

More like the SCOTUS just refused to address the issue. The Court essentially punted on the issue of whether Trump was an insurrectionist in essence taking the position that it was the role of Congress to define what constitutes an insurrection under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment and that absent such legislation they weren't going to disqualify Trump or more accurately permit Colorado to disqualify the defeated indicted former president.

So the SCOTUS struck hard at your conviction, that Trump is an insurrectionist, by ruling that states cannot ban Trump from the ballot ? I can go with that.
