When does Stricklin get some credit for the hire as well? I know what he's done with the football hires, but gotta give him some points for this one.
We have a tendency to get caught up in the moment but it's hard to see golden do anything but get better with experience.
Sadly, the UF fan base seems to only care about the pigskin. I'm kinda fired up myself. Spring sport success at UF is underappreciated. Women gymnastics just won. Baseball swept the hated Canes and basketball is doing well. Not to mention all the other spring sports UF dominates in.
Didn’t see this until now. I posted a much more wordy post similar to this in the game thread just now. He has done an outstanding job, really impressive.
Amazing what good coaching can do! Prior to TG coming, UF basketball was simply mediocre. TG totally revamped the team in his second year fixing all the issues that hindered the team. He didn't need an army of assistants to do it. He has gotten basketball fans excited for the BB team that hasn't been seen in some time. He has gotten this team to improve over the year to the point that anything is possible going forward. Great job TG and go Gators.
You ever thought he might be the one who says adios first. Just throwing that out there to ya. There are some blue bloods that could come calling. So your cautious optimism might turn out a little different than you think.
Like Condon and Haugh? He seems to have an eye for talent - don’t get too caught up in HS accolades- may take a while to compete with the “blue bloods” for the name brand guys
No disrespect but if he leaves it’s because he wants to. Not because we aren’t a blue blood(we are) and not because of money or support. And we’ve proven you can compete for NCs regularly. They came after BD, including UK, and he stayed and what he did speaks for itself. But this would not be a Lon Kruger “lack of support” situation if TG left. We are way past those days. “Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
Outside of ucla, none of them will be shopping anytime soon. UK and Calipari could part ways, but can’t imagine Golden with his limited experience would be that high on their list. That said, and I fully admit my bias, as long as we can pay up, why go to a blue blood? Billy proved you can win here with half the pressure. I would also wonder with a young family how important stability and his faith are to him. UF’s large and active Jewish community was one of the draws for him in coming, and he has a young family to worry about. Pretty similar to how and why Billy stayed.
