Clearly there is more than one variant. I am most familiar with one like @Gatoragman’s:

    Those who can, do.
    Those who can’t, teach.

Admittedly, it bashes my own profession, but I always chose to look at it as friendly ribbing, like what do you call 1,000 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean? @ursidman’s is a pretty funny counterpunch though.

True but I suspect it more has to do with

    - historically it has trended female
    - it is a government paid position
    - it tends to be unionized
    - it comes from the liberal arts programs.

I don't know about these. Some of the biggest reactionaries I've met were government workers (engineers, VA, DMV workers etc.)

There has been a massive "teacher" shortage for several years now. All you have to do is look at any objective analysis of test scores taking a downhill spiral. Unfortunately there has not been a shortage of "indoctrinators". This is the real problem with current education system. No many truly care about "teaching".

    Those who can - teach
Those who can't teach - indoctrinate

It is well past time for the woke libbie indoctrinators to get the boot!

Isn't a Christian supposed to be open-minded and kind? I guess some see evil behind every tree, or imagine it in service to a wrathful god.

People get bent out of shape for bullying and purposefully mocking people. Mistakes happen everyday even among the cis-gendered. There is a whole SNL Pat skit because it happens in life. I dont think there is legislation making it a crime to accidently get a gender wrong, unless I missed it.

Bullying has nothing to do with what I was suggesting. Obviously bullying or mocking people is something that shouldn't be tolerated and that goes for everyone, even beyond trans pronoun people.

This post might be confusing good teachers that deserve better pay with the Groomer teachers that are not paid to sexualize our children.

It's hard to confuse good teachers with ones that only exist in right wing masturbatory fantasies.

I was just saying that I don’t think there is a big deal about accidents being made. Your post seemed to suggest that it was on the other end of the crazy laws being pushed.

Right wing politics has made it near impossible for teachers to lean conservative or vote pub. Just look at what some of the right think:

    Woke libbie this.
    Indoctrinator that.
    Groomer this.
    Progressive that.
    Critical Race Theory this.

I found this piece to be interesting and while I disagree with portions, the author brings up some valid points, including:

    Teachers and the Right

Conservatives have long criticized teachers for their progressive ideological leanings. Yet most public-school teachers are less hostile to conservative views than is commonly assumed. In 2017, Education Week commissioned a nationally representative survey of teachers on their political views. Only 5% of teachers described themselves as "very liberal," while another 24% described themselves as "liberal." A plurality (43%) described themselves as "moderate." The remaining 27% identified either as "conservative" or "very conservative" (roughly the same number as those who identify as "liberal" or "very liberal"). This would make the teacher workforce only slightly less conservative, and somewhat more moderate, than Americans at large.

This should come as no surprise. There are over 3 million teachers in public-school classrooms — a number so large that it would be hard for the group to differ dramatically in its political positions from those of the population as a whole. Debates over education, however, tend to be driven by union leaders, political advocates, faculty at colleges of education, and philanthropic funders, all of whom are a deeper shade of blue than the teachers they represent or seek to influence.

Conservatives would do well to look past the rhetoric of these actors and focus instead on teachers themselves. If they do, they might be surprised to find allies among public-school teachers on any number of issues.

I understand and my statement was not meant as a criticism. But I’m just saying that given their educational and professional backgrounds teachers are probably somewhat more liberal than your average person of a similar demographic. I’m not saying they are far left or crazy or anything, and I certainly agree conservative culture has been very hostile to the situation which no doubt exacerbates the divide.

Straight out of the Republi-ban Playbook of control. Keep everyone scared to death of "the boogeyman" and make darn sure that they remain ignorant, to ensure they remain trapped in their fear.

Are you seriously trying to equate making something a felony equivalent to criticizing it? Sense of proportion much?

Always good to take a little ribbing.

I always found that quote amusing. In my career in the Navy both as a submariner and in Aviation, the top of the heap were instructors, the teachers. I was the "Blue Card" in my squadron, the one who administered final check rides. If you wanted to fly in the Navy, you had to make it thru the check ride. Look at Top Gun, the best of the best were instructors.

Thanks for being part of the profession.
