Obama did do a pretty good job with the border. See this is what being in the middle means. Calling it like it is. I have not given trump any credit for the border except that he enacted Stay in Mexico which was helpful in slowing the flow of illegals. Biden was a disaster by the numbers. Anyone arguing otherwise is only 1 of two choices: either ignorant or dumb. No middle ground.

The POTUS has some control over the border. But this problem has been generations in the making, and geopolitical realities play a much larger part than who is sitting in the Oval Office.

Look at this chart. If you followed the Mexican economy, it would mirror the green in the chart below, only inverse. The better the Mexican economy, the smaller the number of immigrants coming. Conversely, if you look at the Northern Triangle C. American countries of El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala, you would see the inverse. The more these countries struggled, the more immigrants came to the US. Didn't help that Trump wasn't happy more immigrants were coming from these countries that he cut off aid in 2019, which only made the problem even worse!

The Northern Triangle countries are now 1, 2, and 4 when it comes to countries of border apprehension origin. Mexico is 3. Number 5? Venezuela. Another "gift" from Trump, who gave entrants from Venezuela 18 months protection from deportation if they came here before leaving office.

Only a true simpleton would think this generational problem can be solved by a wall and sticking a "closed until further notice" sign on it! The only real way to solve this problem is improve the economies of the world, especially countries to our South where people can walk from into our country. But that's easier said than done, and something not too much in our control.

What we can do? Well, we happen to have a large labor shortage problem. Immigrants aren't the cure-all answer, but if we have jobs not being filled by citizens, and able bodied immigrants willing and able to work, why not let the supply of labor meet demand? There are good reasons why the Gang of 8 was the second bipartisan committee recommend expanding our guest worker Visa program.

We can also do what the bill the R's killed had earmarked over $100 million for, which talks to the OP. And that's add more immigration judges to hear asylum cases.

But a wall? Billion dollar boondoggle. Remain in Mexico? A humanitarian crisis in the making that would piss off a neighbor that could slow or stop $600 million in daily goods crossing from their country into ours. Not a great idea.

LOL. Sure, it's me who can't understand it...

I'm still interested in knowing how you seem to think you aren't far left. Please explain that to me LOL. Love to read the verbal gymnastics you would try to do for that.

Said it in several previous posts, if the crisis at the Southern border is so serious why are Republicans at the direction of defeated indicted deranged former president blocking the enactment of bipartisan legislation that at a minimum would significantly mitigate the problem?

    1.3 million with deportation orders
That is the number of people who have been told they must leave the country but are still living in the United States, according to an official familiar with the internal government data. This includes people whose asylum claims have been denied. Once migrants are told by an immigration judge that they must leave the country, they have 90 days to do so. But many never do.

    Ten years in limbo
That is how long some people wait for the government to issue a decision on their asylum claim. Recent estimates show the wait times average three years in immigration court and 10 years if an application is filed with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Even as additional resources are added to help manage the overwhelming workload, far more asylum applications are filed each year than the government is able to resolve.

For many, the yearslong wait for a decision is benefit enough. Asylum seekers can work legally and often live in much safer environments than the ones they fled. Policymakers say this waiting period, which tends to grow as the backlog grows, has been one of the biggest drivers of illegal immigration.

Asylum in America, by the Numbers.

Further demonstrating your inability to read for all to see. I suggest you post a single comment of mine espousing revolution, communism, socialism, or abandoning capitalism. I’ll wait while you work up some other unsupported insult.

Im not a far left advocate. If you knew what that meant it wouldn’t be much of a debate. In fact, I can’t think of any real posters on here that are far left.

I've said it in several posts, if the crisis at the border is so serious why is Biden not signing Executive Orders or reinstating Stay in Mexico?

Holy crap, that might be the funniest thing you've ever written. Comedy Gold! Thanks for the laughs. I mean the "can't think of any real posters on here that are far left" is one of the funniest lines ever posted in Too Hot.

Wait a minute!!!!!! You have claimed more often than I can remember that all these poor ole immigrants are walking 1500-2000 miles, and we think a fence is stopping them! You don't have to have remain in Mexico for Mexican migrants, have it for all the others that have walked the 1500 -2000 miles to remain in Mexico and perhaps Mexico may stop them on their southern border since we know that is where they are all walking across to get to our southern border. They can claim asylum in Mexico as they are supposed to claim in the first country they come too, aren't they? Mexico doesn't have to spend anything on moving them out, they could just not let them in. But they don't care about letting them in because they know we are not stopping them at our border.

Don't bring logic to an argument with someone who isn't logical. That poster isn't interested in facts. He self owns himself countless times a day yet still thinks he's right. Go look at the covid thread where he still thinks lockdowns, school closures, masks and vaxxing kids was the right decision LOL.

So, nothing we've tried has been successful at stopping people from entering this country. What says Mexico would be able to stop anyone at their Southern border?

And again, having tens of thousands of people sitting on our border waiting is a recipe for disaster. Remain in Mexico was a humanitarian nightmare during COVID. Add 4X the number of people waiting, and what do you think that would look like? Does anyone who thinks beyond a 3rd grade level think these immigrants if forced to remain in Mexico would actually stay and wait patiently?

No. They would either attempt to enter illegally or eventually team up to force the US into action. One thing they could do is form a human blockade and stop traffic from entering the US from Mexico. This would halt $600 million of goods from coming into this country daily. Know who and what else it would effect? The cartels, who see 90% of their US based business enter the country as contraband on the same trucks that bring in the $600 million of daily goods. Think the cartels would sit back and do nothing as their US business tanks?

The cartels could clear the path for the trucks, and that would certainly cause a global humanitarian uproar. Sights of bloody, dead women and children usually do. But this would also bring much more attention than the cartels likely want at the border. The other thing the cartels could do is learn from Hamas, and find easy ways to break large holes in the wall, and coordinate with the migrants as to where and when to be to rush and flood the border. And just like there is construction and other heavy equipment in Gaza that Hamas has access to, I can assure you, his machinery exists in Mexico too; and cartels can easily get their hands on whatever they want.

The border is a very complex, generational problem. I can assure you if it was as easy as putting up a wall and a "closed until further notice" sign to fix the issue, it would have been done decades ago. Simple solutions to complex problems are good for nothing but a laugh. They fix nothing and often create much more difficult and worse problems to solve.

And again, why aren't we addressing our serious labor shortage needs? I'll ask one more time, anyone have a plan that doesn't include expanded immigrant guest workers? Why should we not fill a job with an immigrant if A. that job isn't being filled by a citizen and B. the job can be easily filled by an immigrant?

Sometimes I think that you must gather some friends together, post something like this just to watch the fireworks.

I didn’t spit out my tea when I read “I’m not a far left advocate” but I’m lucky hadn’t just taken a sip before I read your last line or the Admiral’s Club bartender here would have most likely kicked me out.

Which brings us back to the 1992 election when Ross Perot was ridiculed for saying NAFTA would only create a huge sucking sound of US Manufacturing jobs moving offshore. The jobs moved offshore, but the economic conditions of our neighbors to the south have not improved accordingly. And we’re still waiting for all of those exports that they would buy from us with their improving economies.

Just how do you propose that we attempt to improve the economies of the world that will actually work and not just entice the corrupt leadership of those countries to just help themselves to more?

First, has Mexico tried to secure their Southern border? No, except when Trump threaten tariffs on Mexican imports, all of sudden they started deporting and reducing the flow on their southern border.
You have said multiple times in this thread that Mexican immigrants ranks fourth in numbers compared to several others that must be crossing their southern border. You know since they are walking 1500 plus miles up to the US border, so the impact at our border would be decreased by, let say 80%?
Mexico will not stop the trade and the legals that cross back and forth. It will hurt their country a hell of a lot more than ours.
I don't really have any care for the cartels, that we have enriched with the current status. $600 mil in goods is a drop compared to what the cartels are making. If we want to stop the flow of illegal good and people we can, we just have to have the will to do it. Neither side of the aisle has the will so it will continue!
So, you are claiming the 8 mil or so that have come across since Biden has taken office are all working? Why then are we providing them with clothes, housing and food? Why do we have NGO's, funny that they are called NGO's when they are funded by the government, that are providing for these "working migrants"? You stated you are not for an open border but allow the ones that are back round checked in and wait for asylum. Do you for one second think we are background checking all that are coming across seeking asylum now? Do you think the 300,000 or so that this administration flew into the country were background checked? Come on now. The entire blame doesn't by any means fall only at Biden's feet, but he has only increased the problem and has done nothing "but come on in" the problem!!
I know this will fall on def ears so this will be the last for any border discussion with you.

Getting on deindustrialization in 1992 is the same level of prescience as buying Apple stock in 2005. He probably should have ran in like 1975.

Trump was just like "Here's a stupid idea, but it might play well with the rubes : 'Let's build a 2,000 mile border wall'!"

    And here we are. :)

Edit : "I'll even tell those clowns that Mexico will pay for it!"

Edit2 : "Maybe some of my highest level advisors can even set up a fraudelent GoFundMe for this, and I'll just pardon them if they get caught."

Edit3 : It's probably just like how his 'Drain the Swamp' con line caught on...

At a rally in Des Moines, (Trump) told the story:

Funny how that term caught on, isn't it? . . . I tell everyone, I hated it. Somebody said “Drain the swamp,” and I said, “Oh, that is so hokey. That is so terrible.” . . . I said, all right, I'll try it. . . . So, like a month ago, I said, “Drain the swamp,” and the place went crazy. And I said, “Whoa, what's this?” Then I said it again. And then I start saying it like I meant it, right? And then I said it—I started loving it, and the place loved it. Drain the swamp. It's true. It's true. Drain the swamp.

There has been a massive improvement in the economy of Mexico. In terms of exports, we have gone from $41.6 billion to $323 billion in 30 years. Meanwhile, American consumers have seen particular benefits and you see far fewer Mexicans trying to come to the US, which is why you are seeing the primary push from places like Central America and Venezuela.

The biggest thing that we could do would be to try to shut down the black markets for guns and drugs.
