Missouri GOP state bill would designate teachers as sex offenders

My family has had plenty of teachers. Sure, there are lousy ones out there, but a good teacher - anywhere from kindergarten to graduate school - can have such positive influence on someone’s life.
It’s a truly noble profession if done well.

 

I currently teach. I tell them to refer to me This Way, and there is not another option. They tell me how to refer to them, and that’s what I do. I don’t put another second into considering the validity of that. And I don’t see why I would. What exactly would that entail? They are 13-17. How exactly would I go about establishing these bonafides? More than a couple are not obvious. What shit do I have to give to this culture war?

We need to move on to the task at hand, and that’s already overtime. Me genital-confirming your kids ain’t a thing. You “handle” that at home and leave me out of it.

 

Christianity has not changed much at all. We just no longer have very many Republi-ban practicing Christianity.

 

I believe most of the politicians are false Christians, I suspect those who wear it on their sleeves the loudest are using it to manipulate and gain power. Im sure there are the true fundamentalists as well, but sooo many politicians come off as fake.

I’d disagree that “nothing has changed”, it’s a very clear radicalization in that certain slice of the electorate. Quite visible the loons populating some state level GOP. Even if I believe the politicians are frauds, someone is still voting for clowns like this guy in MO. Doesn’t say much for his district.

 

The reason teachers trend liberal is that the GOP has been using them as a punching bag for decades.

 

We're fortunate democracy has lasted as long as it has. That Trump is currently ahead in the polls suggests our moderate democratic way of life may be doomed. However, a lot can change over the next eight months, so all is not yet lost. I remain hopeful.

 

They already want teachers to be cops when it comes to school shooters, now I guess they are wanting to extend their cop duties to policing gender norms (on penalty of becoming a criminal). Love to live in a society where everyone has to be policing everyone all the time, preferably packing heat to back it up, I think there's a word for that.

Yep, all part of the anti science, anti education, anti ivory tower elites sentiment that has become so pervasive.
Irony: using devices that required science to invent and produce to bash science. Maybe go back to smoke signals and messengers on foot.

 

The original was- Those who can, do. Those who understand, teach. But a lot more points to be scored by bashing teachers than praising them.

 

Aren't teachers supposed to teach math science, English, history, and economics? Why would a teacher want to help a child transition to the opposite sex? Why would a teacher discuss sex at all with a child? Sounds like a mentally ill groomer to me. Do not put these mentally ill people in a group and call them teachers. That is disrespecting teachers. A real teacher would never get involved with a child's sexuality. That is the parent's job and the parent's only.

While defenders and apologists will disagree, Christianity is becomng increasingly controlled by leaders that demand
strict adherence to KJV or Fundamentalist interpretations of doctrine.

This is further magnified by a concerted effort of the the groups in financial control of these institutions to publicly, overtly and by stated policy,
support conservative GOP operatives and politics.

IMO Evangelical Christianity, clearly, no longer differentiates Democrat or Republican as being "Outside the Kingdom", it's pretty clear
from statements from those in authority (or spokespersons) and of course where the finances are coming from, that Evangelicals are almost
exclusively the religon and domain of Republicans. If you are not, the door will close on you.

So throw the age of enlightenment and the renaissance out the window.

Shame really, the church picking a political party over all those democratic "fish" they are now condemed as being hell bound.

Get on the Prosperity, Evangelical, Trump, MAGA train while the gettin is good! Or go to Hell!

I like this, lets do moderate. Get rid of idiotic legislation like this one in Missouri which punishes teachers for using a certain pronoun, but let's also stop getting bent out of shape if someone (a teacher perhaps) that uses he for a boy that is trans or vice verse. It's nothing personal so just let it roll off your back and don't make a big deal either way.
Once you start making something personal, someone else is going to make the opposite personal and here we are.
