    They are bonkers.

Also from the show me state:

GOP governor candidate revealed as ‘honorary’ KKK member pictured making Nazi salute

Missouri gubernatorial candidate who once admitted to being an “honorary” member of the Klu Klux Klan says he will defy attempts to have him kicked off the ballot.

Photos of Darrell L McClanahan appearing to make a Nazi salute while standing in front of a burning cross resurfaced online this week, nearly two years after they were first published by the Anti-Defamation League’s (ADL) Center on Extremism.

On Thursday, the Missouri Republican Party said in a post on X it had been made aware that Mr McClanahan had filed to run for governor “despite his affiliation with the Ku Klux Klan”.

Good lord. This may be one of those laws that drives teachers out. What exactly does “support” mean.

    Another “true Christian” American proposal.

Seems so-called Christianity has totally gone off the rails in some parts of the country.

If a student wears clothing that is inconsistent with traditional gender norms, do the teachers have to report it to someone? Does the knowledge or approval of the parents matter?

That's their plan. Run out "liberal" teachers they don't want there. There's already a massive teacher shortage

Followed by " see public schools do not work, we need vouchers so kids can be sent to schools run by churches and our like minded friends".

Defame, ostracize, tarnish reputations and destroy the livelihoods of professionals, for not using proper pronouns, feign shock when stuff like this happens.

“Red meat base” stuff like this probably feels like a huge short term win to the zealots when they can get it passed. If the goal is to force teachers out, they are doing long term economic harm. Great plan if they want to make Missouri look like Afghanistan. Then again, maybe that’s what Christofascists want? But it all seems pretty clearly unconstitutional to me just on basic free speech grounds.

Well, the Trumppublican party has shown that it has the most impeccable moral character possible. Just look at their presidential candidate.

This is it exactly but what they don’t get is that there won’t be any teachers for those schools either. They’ll have to rely on nut bags and ex cons. Which, as you say, is the point.
Check out the number of sex offenders at these “schools”

By “proper pronoun” you mean the one the person prefers? Continual misgendering should be punished exactly as other forms of harassment. Just like sexual harassment, maybe it’s not always 100% clear or the victim is hypersensitive (or not a victim at all). But sometime a person is just a douchebag and the harassment is obvious. In those cases, punishment is warranted (punishment usually limited to firing or a civil lawsuit from the victim if they want to sue, not big guv handing down punishment from above)

In this law apparantly it’s so the government can punish the teacher for using preferred pronouns. I’m sorry, but if the person wants to be called X, and the teacher says “duly noted”, it’s nutso for big guv to come in and say “no, sorry that is a felony”. Essentially saying speech is a felony.

I’m going to guess teachers on average a bit more liberal than your average Joe. If I were a teacher in MO I’d seriously consider getting out. Not so much about moral outrage about the law, but the personal danger you are put in as a teacher. If you navigate a situation wrong you are charged with a felony and put on a sex offenders list. Who wants that kind of risk?

It could have similar affects as abortion laws that reduce OBGYNs and also eliminate certain pregnancy care that has nothing to do with abortions.

I kind of look at this along the lines of protestors/rioters who destroy their own neighborhood businesses because of a particular social injustice. Hey we made a point but now we don’t have a grocery store.

How does that old saying go?

    Those who can - teach
Those who can’t teach, pass laws about teaching.

Nothing like making the enemy an already underpaid and underappreciated occupation; one that is generally done out of love. I've thought about teaching in retirement, but absolutely not with this shit.
