Gator Baseball 2024 OFFICIAL ROSTER/Transfer Tracker/Lineup???

Upon further review....
It turns out our best hitter over the weekend other than Cags who went 7-14 with 2 HRs was none other than Ty Evans who went 4-12 with 1 HR. Kurland ended up 4-15 with 1 HR. Heyman, Shelton, Shelnut, and Thomas all had 3 hits over the weekend. Shelton did have the most RBIs with 5.

 

Here we are at 8-3, 11 games in and about a fifth the way thru the regular season. Even though its been 3 weekends it feels like 2 weekends since we cancelled 2 games in week one. I want to post the updated batting averages about every other week from here on for tracking if needed. First where we stand on the batting numbers with the AVE, OPS, and OB%.....

Its still early in the season so we can't pull much out of the live feeds that gives us any good trends or matchups. But I think it's clear Guy and Garrison don't offer much from a hitters view and Sully will need to make adjustments. Most agree Albert needs to play somewhere. I would say if not third then at least put him in as the DH when we face a RHP as the starter. If we need a PH to walk up and swing away for a HR then go to Donay.

Two other considerations, Sully needs a very productive hitter behind Cags and right now Heyman is not filling that role very well. No one stands out as the right fill in behind Cags. I would move Shelnut up until Heyman starts hitting more in key moments. Lastly I would start Robertson more often and then late in the game, if Robertson hasn't got a hit, bring in Guy when facing a LHP.

 

Thanks for your input. I figured this was coming. I'm not so high on Garrison overall as a starting catcher. He might receive the ball better than the rest but his throws to second have been very inaccurate at practice and between innings when I've seen him at the Condron. Most throws are high to the third base side or or bouncing in the grass. Then you factor his 100 batting average and he becomes second or third on my list depending on schematics. Sure he probably will be the Sunday starter when Cags is pitching and Heyman takes first but his bat will really suffer in SEC if he doesn't get it figured out fast. I do think Heyman will see better days at the plate and that might start as SEC gets going with his instincts for hitting line drives.

These are sorted by ERA regardless of innings pitched. Its too early in the year to compare quality starts or enough innings to meet the league minimum. For this we compare ERA, WHIP, Innings Pitched, and Bat-Ave-Faced. I've dropped a few meaningful notes as well.

13 Slater, Ryan---------- 2.40--- 0.80-- 15.0-- .140 Our best Mid reliever credited with 3 in Miami but looks to be solid as ever with a 2.4 ERA and 6 app.
14 Caglianone, Jac------ 3.00--- 1.00--- 9.0-- .156 Jacs true potential has yet to be seen on the mound. Its coming, just give him time.
12 Peterson, Liam------- 3.75--- 1.00-- 12.0- .143 The true freshman with the most potential to be dominate. Remains to be seen how handles the SEC.
22 Neely, Brandon------- 4.50--- 1.50--- 6.0- .250 Don't let the ERA numbers fool you. When trying to mow thru the brush sometimes you hit things.
27 Jameson, Fisher------ 5.87--- 1.57--- 7.2- .233 He might be the surprise mid relief man by end of season. Sully has to dial in how best to use him.
3 Fisher, Cade------------ 7.71--- 1.46-- 11.2- .306 Is he or isn't he the right guy for Friday? For now don't get caught up in him going 6-7 innings.
41 Purnell, Blake--------- 9.00--- 2.50--- 4.0- .400 Can he find the right velocity? I think Sully needs to only use him for 3-4 batters each appearance.
20 Clemente, Jake------ 13.50--- 1.50--- 2.0- .250 Needs a few opps to get that ERA down. If so he can he's useful in the midweeks.
9 McNeillie, Luke-------- 15.19-- 2.25---- 5.1- .400 Showed lots of promise but not working out yet on the mound. Keep him at 1 inning per app.
17 Gomberg, Jacob----- 18.00--- 3.00--- 1.0- .000 His one appearance was not good. Lots of coaching needed to get him ready for the next one.

Certainly and why I suggest Shelnut move to batting third until Heyman gets going again. Mainly because Heyman is not protecting Cags and if Heyman keeps batting like that Cags is getting walked even more. No one wants to see that. If I'm FAU or UCF I'm not pitching to Cags until someone batting behind him shows they mean business.

 

I'll try to piece together a lineup based on the batting averages and other factors many here have shared. Hopefully we see something like it during the two midweek games this week. It might look something like this if we face a RHP....

2B - Kurland - most walks and HBP combined and has scored the most runs on the team
1B - Caglianone(L) - nothing more to say after last weekend
LF - Shelnut - somebody has to step up and protect the spot behind Cags and Shelnut seems like our best opportunity right now
SS - Shelton(L) - doing his job in the 4th spot and gives us a R-L-R-L-R upper half plus leads the team with 5 HRs
RF - Evans - leads the team in triples, its look-up-able and you should to get the joke
C - Heyman - average continues to sag but is due to step things up, I keep expecting a breakout weekend soon
CF - Robertson(L) - best option for CF even though some are worried about the swing
DH - Russell ??? - came in as a PR on Sunday, must mean he's close to coming back, we need a good RHH low in the order, big opportunity here
3B - Albert(L) or Thomas(R) - will he or won't he, waiting to see if Sully dare make the move at 3B, unknown how Albert handles the hot corner if so

If Sully keeps Thomas at third then I could see Albert as the DH batting 9th and Thomas bats 8th. Either way Albert needs to play, especially against FAU. It'd be a crime if he did not. Our other RHH just aren't very productive right now so its difficult to plug in a DH with guys like Donay, Garrison, Guy, or Wilson. If Cags is the DH with Heyman at 1B then we get Donay or Garrison back behind the plate but we lose a spot in the order unless somebody wakes up.

I don't see Sully using Albert as a DH in any game other than FAU so looking down the roster again I found a name we kind of forgot that hasn't played yet. He is John Martinez, the backup 3B that bats right. His bat has some pop and might see some action some time. I know Sully commented on Landon Russell after the game and has made remarks he could be special or a real asset to this team. So getting him back as a DH might fit nicely for our needs right about now. Hope we can get back on a long win streak before we head to LSU.

 

LOL Props for handling this delicate issue in the proper manner. I missed your post earlier so I'm glad I rechecked the list of quoted alerts. I've hinted a few times at pregames that my eyes say #18 looking better physically. I've yet to see him throw a pitch in the bullpen but others on here have. Sully said back around SEC season so we have to be closer than ever before. Now how long until he makes a start??? I have no earthly idea. Trust me if he takes the mound in the next ten games at home I won't be able to contain myself trying to update the thread here.
