What does the title "AD Emeritus" mean to you?

He retired for a reason, sorry. He is not calling the shots.

Spurrier is Mr. Ambassador, or whatever, but he is not calling the shots.

But, given that it is harder to prove what someone doesn't do, than what someone does do, why don't you tell me what Foley has done recently?

    I'll be waiting.

Yeah. I love Spurs as much as the next guy, but given his role as "ambassador", his comments were way out of line.

Then, do tell why you are complaining about him in the context of this particular discussion?

But I am glad you admit that what is going on now has zero to do with him.

Well you tend to root for and not even remember that he caused us, most likely, an entire win. I used to be a fan from the day I saw him. After hearing that podcast with 300lb Larry Bird look a like with wrestling shorts , I look at him differently. Plus he’s certainly allowed to do for self but I’m allowed to root for self and we launched him and he left to a rival, our biggest most likely. He can eat a bag of

I have no idea what Foley does or doesn't do. Obviously, neither do you.

Tell us what Foley said to SOS after his stint in the NFL when SOS showed serious interest in wanting to return to coach the Gators.

There is something much bigger looming that is giving our rivals much more ammo. 11 wins in two seasons. There is no commentary that is a bigger indictment on Napier as a coach than his record. The gauntlet is down, win or be gone. Spurrier built our program’s legacy, he’s very observant and still sharp. If his criticism is too much for the program or the head coach then we have the wrong guy leading.

Agree 100%. Spurrier set the standard. He knows what is possible and how things should be.

And his comments go deeper than “the army.” Billy still insists on 2 OL coaches, no on-field special teams coach, and him calling the plays. No amount of “army” will fix those things and it seems Napier is putting a lot of energy into replacing leaving members of the army instead of addressing the things that killed us last year.

A lack of on-field ST guy will rear its ugly head.

Having 2 Co-OCs in name changes nothing if Billy still calls the plays, takes his foot off the gas, and kills momentum.

The “army” hasn’t reduced the number of hats Billy wears on gameday leading to playcalling issues, timeout and tempo issues, personnel issues, etc.

SOS didn’t say it out loud but read between the lines. Football 101 is lacking with Billy and none of these personnel moves except for Roberts seem to be addressing the Football 101 part.

I think most on this board agree with the comments Spurrier made, including myself. We are just questioning why they were made publicly? If he told them to Napier in private and was blown off or told to shove it, that’s another thing. We don’t and may not ever know. In the meantime, we have to support what we got. I’m sure Napier knows he has to show improvement this year. He has been given everything he has asked for. Time to produce is now.

You sir are a prophet! Either that or coach is predictable and stubborn. BTW, if it’s the former, do you mind quietly PMing me some winning lottery numbers?

Probably because it’s year 3 and Napier doesn’t seem to grasp what ails the program. No sense of urgency, always the same attitude from Napier. The man doesn’t seem to understand that he needs to win.

There is also a “design” element to it. We cannot get to the end of the F$U game and fire both Napier and Stricklin with early NSD a couple of weeks away. We need a plan in place.

Comments like this from SOS raise the heat on Stricklin. If the first 7 games don’t result in 6-1 or better, Stricklin is likely gone before the bye week in order to secure an AD before season’s end. The decision to fire or keep Napier will also likely be made mid-season, but not carried out until the end.

If SOS is speaking it’s because the boosters, BullGators, movers, and shakers are working behind the scenes. These weren’t comments made on the fly.

He hasn't said anything new that most of us here on GC have said before. It has to eat at SOS having put UF on the map in the 90s, seeing UM win 2 nattys, and even Muschamp, Mac and DM wasn't this bad. BN asked for the sun, moon and stars and was given it only to screw the pooch. It's bad when our only sure wins are against poedunk U's. So yes Steve, we get you, but doubt you'd be welcomed by those who think all BN needs is 3 more years to right the ship.
I'm fine with those on here who remain optimistic that is there right and truthfully I hope they are right. But, what most of us have seen these past two years on and off the field with BN, I wouldn't bet the farm nor even a scooter that things will turn around.

No matter what SOS says, and at least a 4 win season ...CBN will be the head coach at the START of 2025!

Be careful not to lump the first year of the three losing seasons under Napier. I know you didn't say that directly, but, too many people on TV are talking like Napier has had three losing seasons in a row, rather than the two following being handed off a program already in disrepair.

Well said. Spurrier has always said and done exactly what he thinks. That's what makes Spurrier Spurrier, and, it's also what made him a winner. Why would anyone think he would change at the age of 78?

I don't know, and neither do you. All rumor. It's kind of a ridiculous one to be honest.

Spurrier had a stadium named after him, was offered a cush job as "Ambassador" to UF. He has been treated quite well, and evidently, he didn't have much disdain for Foley.

Spurrier is not a god, he has made a few mistakes along the way.

And because of his position at UF now, he shouldn't have said what he said.
