Napier just can’t let go of that 2 OL coach nonsense.

These HCs are stubborn. Muschamp hired his S&C Coach, OC from Florida, … again when he was hired at South Carolina. I firmly believe if Muschamp had a west coast offense at UF he would still be here.

Actually, if Muschamp had any semblance of an offense at all, he might still be here. ;)

Meyer had Hevesy and Addazio. It’s not really nonsense.

The original twitter poster talks about this being DeCoster's first D1 gig as if coaching in the NFL doesn't count in the coaching world of experience? Lol.

There was / is a big difference. hevesy coached interior OL while Addazio coached tackles AND tight ends. There was no solo TE coach. Thus, under Meyer’s set up, that left a spot for another on field coach since the two o line coaches coached in total 2 position groups, unlike under Napier where they coach just one.

There is no other power 6 school in the country with Napiers set up. I can’t imagine that Napier is just smarter than every single other head coach. If you are going to try to revolutionize the set up it better prove fruitful. So far, it has not done so on or off the field.

Maybe so, but if you just copy everybody else, you will never have any advantage over them. I’m going to trust the guy who is paid to know what he is doing, not the nameless internet folks who are just expressing an opinion.

If he understood that offense is at least as important as defense he would still be here.

It is though. He was listed as a “assistant” on the Browns last season with no specified role. They had a OL coach and a assistant OL coach, and he was neither of them. fwiw, they had 11 assistants on offense and 8 on defense, massive staff.

Yeah. That was a huge problem spot on offense. Maybe 3 would do.

It is not MY opinion. Take every great football coach of this or really any era. Take every power 5 conference title -not just national title but conference title winners- this century and NONE has a set up like Napier. Zero. Saban, Smart, Harbaugh, Dabo, Miles, etc. these are more than internet folks- these are coaches who are or were at the TOP of their profession.

I initially thought that the 2 oline coaches was a way to gain a competitive advantage. But so far, it has been weak. Recruiting has been average to below average based on what we spend for two o line coaches and for having two on field bodies dedicated to it. It is not like we have two equal standing o line coaches like Sale and Pittman or Sale and another top level o line coach. Sale makes big money while he has basically a protege level beneath him on both experience and pay. That second o line coach is basically a glorified off field analyst. Napier is okay with no on field QB coach- O’Hara is an off field analyst. He could do the same with O line. (In fact we have 3 other off field analysts for the o line - though maybe just two as we lost Blackshear as he left for an on field gig so we have like 4-5 coaches working with the o line).

anyway, if it works out for the o line, that would be awesome. So far it has not.

Two O line coaches. 3 OC. A DC and a head coach of the defense. A special teams analyst and a game changing coordinator. A lot one can question. It will work out or not I guess.

I also didn't finish my thought... Of course NFL experience is not D1 experience, but I meant to say that he's not green, and he at least has some NFL experience which is better than none.

Perhaps one per player. In fact get two for the center since he snaps AND blocks.

you would think after the first chance , he would have learned. Stubbornness is the downfall of coaches.
