It’s not gonna stop at HS either… Sadly, NIL is about to ruin high school football in Florida | Commentary – Orlando Sentinel
As I say, the inmates are running the asylum. If there aren't structures that "prevent" silly folk from attempting to buy a win, mercenaries WILL manifest. It is what it is.
There already was recruiting in Florida from Public to Private HS and “scholarships” to attend for free. At least Florida still requires families to live in the district and has held true to that in the past. Now if the NIL moves the whole family that is a different story. Has everyone seen the HS stadiums in TX? Better than some small colleges. Would not surprise me if HS NIL deals took star players from FL to TX in the future. Insane.
All driven by nutty fans worshipping the stars. I imagine it will reduce to those teams that participate and those that don’t. It will sort out.
"Your district restricts my son's earning capability. . ." Courts approve. Case Closed. Bye Bye any concept of amateur sports in this country.
It’s getting so bad my four year old grandson won’t toss the pigskin with me without a monthly Lego kit.
It only gets ruined if people are stupid enough to pay....have to believe there aren't that many willing to throw their money away in that fashion.
Guy there's literally millions of people who gamble their money away on sports betting platforms that will ban you if you aren't losing enough. Never underestimate how dumb people are.
Yes....but that's a different dynamic. There will be those that still can/will support this craziness, but the scope is limited IMO
A couple of months ago, you and I traded comments on this subject. If I recall, you made a reference to how the Pro Soccer teams were doing this.
Yeah. The guys who are really into it (think recruiting guy) can tell you who the potential stars are probably going all the way down to U-12. You've heard of Manchester United. The core of their famous "Treble" team were guys who had been with the club since they were kids. Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, both Nevilles, etc. And "Homegrown Players" always have a special place in the fan's hearts. P.S. If I remember the story right, Beckham was from London, but ManU signed him at 10yo and he moved to Manchester and entered their academy.
