U.S. drops humanitarian aid into Gaza while ally Israel obstructs it

US President Joe Biden announced the move Friday, saying more aid is desperately needed in the enclave, and that Israel must also allow for more trucks and routes for aid in Gaza.

Officials from several aid agencies, including the International Crisis Group and Oxfam, criticized the US plan as ineffective.

“Humanitarian workers always complain that airdrops are good photo opportunities but a lousy way to deliver aid,” the ICG's United Nations director, Richard Gowan, said on X.

Oxfam's Scott Paul wrote that the aid drops only "serve to relieve the guilty consciences of senior US officials," who should instead cut military aid to Israel and push for an immediate ceasefire. CNN has documented how US ally Israel obstructs the bulk of aid deliveries to the enclave.

    (9) US is planning more Gaza airdrops in the coming days after first one was "successful," White House says (cnn.com)

    Shameful. Scott Paul is correct.

It would have been fascinating to see the political doo-doo storm, had Biden been tougher with Israel. What shameful political times we live in.

I'm surprised how little attention has been given in this forum (unless I missed it) to the genocide in Gaza which this country materially supports.

    Definitely.

Trumppublicans boxed Biden in perfectly on this with their fake-righteous branding of war crimes as response to terrorism as "support for Israel."

    Shameful.

Yes, if history is any indication, that “humanitarian aid” was going straight to the people of Gaza and not Hamas.

Israel has the firepower to completely level Gaza and could have done so a while ago. Instead, they choose to be precise in their targeting, warn civilians of incoming attacks, then Hamas continues to hide behind civilians and people still blame Israel for civilian casualties.

It’s a morally complicated problem, but not factually complicated.

The people of Gaza elected Hamas. Hamas’s mission is to destroy Israel and kill as many Jews as possible. Hamas would rather die than coexist with Israel. Hamas proved itself an existential threat to the state of Israel on October 7th in cowardly acts of terrorism directed at civilians, not military.

Now that Israel is defending itself, Hamas is hiding behind the people of Gaza so when innocent people die, ignorant Westerners blame Israel for defending itself from the worst humanity has to offer.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, “there are two morally acceptable positions in this conflict and only two:
    1. Aid Israel
    2. Stay the Hell out of their way”

LOL. The IDF could use another Baghdad Bob…

    Third and fourth options

    3) discontinue all aid
    4) Bomb Israel

    I’ll grudgingly go with #3

What other military in the world knocks on doors of civilians warning them to leave so they don’t get hit?

What other military gives a warning shot that shakes buildings warning the people inside to leave so they can level the building which is being used to launch rockets at Israel?

Does Hamas grant Israel these courtesies? Yet none of this is enough for you.

And then bombs there anyway knowing that the people have no way of leaving and nowhere to go.

Weird how there are over 30,000 civilian casualties with such precision. We can be sure you're never opining any "pro-life" positions, correct?

25k women and children (at least) dead at their blood thirsty hands. Who knows how many hideously maimed. The survivors will want to kill Israeli’s and justifiably so.

What exactly are they supposed to do?

Weapons down, awaiting the next October 7th?

You can call that moral superiority from our ivory tower in the West all you want. But Israel has every right to give that sort of mentality the finger as they stare down an existential threat.

Those numbers would be a whole lot lower if Hamas wouldn’t use them as human shields. This war wouldn’t even be happening if Hamas didn’t decide to issue the worst act of anti-Semitic terror since the Holocaust.

Longevity? Because Israel are creating a vast new generation of Hamas/ISIS/whatever Hamas morphs into fighters that will be even more dead set on wiping Israel off the map than ever before and a much larger, more united force than ever.

That was the failure of Iraq. We created a new wave of terrorists and didn't achieve any important objectives there, nor do we have anything to show for the thousands of soldiers we lost. Israel is making that same mistake, albeit at a much larger and grandiose scale. Israel have fooled themselves into believing they can drive terrorism from their doorstep.

This is a brutally foolish strategy. You know the goal has to be ethnic cleansing, because surely nobody in the IDF in their right mind believes they are going to eradicate enough Hamas fighters to where they'll never have the balls to attack Israel again. They know the truth of my words and they know the only plausible way is to move Palestinians out of the Gaza Strip for good. The world is not going to allow that to happen. The only reason it has gone this far is with the Biden administration's tacit approval, which, as you can see decreases by .003% each day. You know, just enough to act like they tried to do something, but knowing full well Netanyahu and his boys will keep lighting up the Gaza Strip until every last Palestinian is gone.

Enough is enough. 12,500 children are dead. Fine if the us doesn’t want to call of the dogs … fine. It was Israel’s people that died. But for god sake stop supporting it financially. This is just gross at this point.

BS. According to a US intelligence assessment, about half of the bombs dropped by the Israelis in Gaza have been unguided or “dumb bombs.”

Unguided munitions are typically less precise and can pose a greater threat to civilians, especially in such a densely populated area like Gaza. The rate at which Israel is using the dumb bombs may be contributing to the soaring civilian death toll.

On Tuesday, President Joe Biden said Israel has been engaged in “indiscriminate bombing” in Gaza.

Asked for comment on the assessment, IDF spokesperson Nir Dinar told CNN, “We do not address the type of munitions used.”

But experts told CNN that if Israel is using unguided munitions at the rate the US believes they are, that undercuts the Israeli claim that they are trying to minimize civilian casualties.

Exclusive: Nearly half of the Israeli munitions dropped on Gaza are imprecise ‘dumb bombs,’ US intelligence assessment finds | CNN Politics

How many of those “dumb bombs” were preceded by a warning for civilians in the area?

Was Israel granted that same courtesy?

This looks to any honest person like Israel actively tries to avoid civilian casualties whereas Hamas does everything they can to maximize civilian death counts on both sides.

It’s obvious who the bad guy is here.

I for one, don’t think Israel should stop until every tunnel that hamas dug is eliminated. If not, they will be facing another attack in a few years. It’s strange that I don’t see any posts regarding the thievery that hamas has done against the palestinians all these years in order to build a very complex network of tunnels to store weapons and plan attacks against Israel —-

A major step to protect the Palestinian people is for Hamas to return the October hostages.

No one on this thread is saying Hamas isn’t the bad guy but eventually the good guys kill enough fricken children that the line between good guy and bad guy gets blurred. Israel has lost the moral high ground imo.

I'm not sure what Israel's options are here. They're pot committed to trying to eliminate Hamas, and I don't blame them. If they call off the dogs now they're just leaving a bloodied Hamas to regroup.

I understand another "Hamas" is just going to pop in up its place and we'll be repeating this same cycle thats been happening for hundreds of years. And innocent people dying is terrible.

I don't think halting aid is an option as it sends the message that our support for Israel is tentative and would encourage more violence against them and more trying to win the battle of the media by the original aggressors.

I always say it when it comes to the middle east, but there are no good guys in these conflicts. Just varying shades of bad
