The 1-3-1 and 2-3 just require guys to know where the pressure is about to come from and anticipating it. A lot of times a 1-3-1 is effective for like 3-4 possessions and then teams adjust and shred it. Not sure why we aren’t prepared for it.

A favorite tactic of Donovan's, particularly when he had his earlier full-court press teams at UF, was to suddenly switch to zone with about 5 minutes left. It threw teams off just as they were beginning to feel tired from trying to run with us all game. Pretty damned brilliant. When he sprang that on top-ranked Duke in the Sweet 16, they fell apart.

We saw a bit of 1-3-1 and 3-2… we executed well enough against both. Uga didn’t stick with it too long.

    Gotta get this fixed.
The issue is… It is hard to practice again zone if you don’t teach an employ zone at least part of the time. And as we know, we are straight man –to- man.

Unless we can show through the rest of the regular season games and the SEC tourney that we’ve found a way to defeat the zone. Every team will throw the 131 against us and I mean everyone.

for sure. Though that’s not something teams will play for a duration and usually not extended period. Usc went to it early. It’s tough- especially for that back line player.
But yeah- teams will absolutely use it on segments. And it will be a problem.

I didn’t realize we were four for 17 from three-point land. That definitely is a huge factor in making their zone effective. The first way to defeat his own is by shooting the deep ball.

Maybe we should just stop running out to 10 or 15 point leads. When we do that, the other team switches defenses, makes a comeback, grabs momentum, and wins the game. Maybe if we keep it close, they won't feel the need to switch defenses on us, then we just have to make a couple plays down the stretch to win.

I’m not sure if to give this a “laugh” or “agree” or “winner” rating.

That's the perfect response to my post. It makes logical sense, but it is ridiculous.

…and being in the double bonus from the 7 minute mark

it’s more than just the points - it slows the whole pace of the game, makes it much harder to get into early offense vs the zone.

    It’s A&M part deux
With the way we like to play, a slow foul laden game hurts us more than most- I know I’m raw now, but really sick of the undue influence the officials exercise on the pace of a game.

Shoot well and you can beat any zone. That's the key simple but unless you hit 35% or better from 3 all zones are tough

Against the 1-3-1 it is the corner 3. Riley was WAY open on his shot and drained it.

On problem we have against 1-3-1 is that most of our three point shooters shoot from out top and not from the corner. Will Richard is comfortable from there but he is hot and cold and that is where Riley shoots the three the best. Clayton will launch from anywhere but it is clear that he prefers to shoot the trey from out top.
