Ok… but if that was his reasoning, and he opted to not say so publicly, I’m not seeing how you’d hold that against him?? Nor would I consider it “accusing the fan base on his way out”. You could certainly argue he was too thin-skinned, and needed to better deal with the pressures and criticisms of the job. But I never thought he took shots as he left.
Anyway- my days of defending Mike are over! Lol! I was more curious as to if a missed a comment… which is why I inquired.

I can’t speak to Bianchi’s report, as I didn’t read it. But I do know Mike’s wife stopped attending games… at least not as frequently… bc what she heard in the stands was difficult. I don’t think she was ever directly insulted, but i think she just heard the vitriol and it was uncomfortable for her and the kids. My guess is the critical fans didn’t even know they were in proximity to Mike’s family.
If Bianchi reported the family was targeted by fans… I never heard of that having happened.

I don’t see it as a slap in the face. Why is it? It’s not like he was universally loved and the fanbase wanted him to stay. If it was Billy D going to UK or FSU yeah… I could see it. But UGA isn’t really even our basketball rival. I actually was happy for the guy that he got a decent job. I don’t see him or UGA as a real threat.

 

Man KJ was special. It hurt me to see him in that stupid “Coach Key” role on the sideline. Even worse to see him ball out for another school.

 

If a coach gets paid millions of dollars and then up and leaves and "gives UF the middle finger," why exactly does that make him a hero to Mike Bianchi?
(It's a rhetorical question; Bianchi is actually the one that likes to give UF the middle finger).

 

Guy got 7 years at a program coming off Donovan. Paid tens of millions. There is no justification for Boorish fans hassling his wife or family, and nobody should apology for criticizing his uf coaching. If his wife wanted a different game experience he should have won more. Being upset that fans in the stands are critical of losing coaching is absurd (again, assuming it was directed at MW and not his family).

 

I don’t know of anything directed at his wife or kids.
Still, I suspect it is hard for kids to have their father the target of some pretty intense vitriol.
It’s pretty easy … and probably fair … to suggest Mike be able to handle the criticism.
It’s a bit different to suggest kids should be able to do the same.

 

Then the kids shouldn’t sit with fans? The reality White stunk. It’s not up to consumers to insulate kids on the fact their dad was a bad coach. That’s the parents job

 

a coach’s family is part of the community… they go to local school, restaurants, grocery store, etc. And so, I’m sure it can get pretty tough for kids when their dad is under intense scrutiny and criticism. And I am not making that statement specific to Mike; nor UF.
Still, I’m not blaming the fans. In fact, I think I went out of my way to exonerate them.
Yes- it is the parents job to insulate the kids, and I suspect part of his move was to that end.
Things were souring quickly, and he made a preemptive decision.

 

The idea that amateur sports is so important that it's inbounds for "consumers" to tee off on children is absurd. Very little -- if anything -- is that important. Some people just want a license to be their worst selves.

Nobody said fans can tee off on kids. But if kids overhear fans saying their dad is a bad coach then what’s the problem? He was a bad coach. Nobody should target the kids
