SOS and ETN comments come out same day …. Ugh. No spin on this. You can’t shift this until you win CBN
Yeah, as optimistic as I am, I'm legitimately concerned. So, as we head into spring practice, I would be remiss if I didn't drive down ye ole stadium way without a massive dose of consternation. Napier is building the dream. But this year the dream absolutely must become reality on the playing field or a nightmare ensues. Now that the president of the University has been here for a minute and has become familiar with the landscape, he might just dump the AD and Napier in one clean swoop if things look like last year. I would imagine the diamond in the rough up and coming corch approach would come to a screeching halt and mega millions would be mustered up to get the absolute best guy in America. And not a decade too soon! Coaches and kids alike have jumped overboard. Billy has to make this work; now! We know it, he knows it. I sure hope he can pull a winning season out of his posterior. I really would like to see him succeed on this stage. Go Gators.
Every college football program is overpaying their QBs. It's the cost of doing business in college football.
If that happens then He can take Foley with him. But I am not ready to throw in the towel just yet. This is a do or die year and I hope we have all the moving parts to get it done... we'll see. But if he fails to right the ship this coming season? It's just a matter of how many wins is the minimum threshold to keep him. Minimum... I say 7 wins is that cutoff number. But it might be higher. I know our schedule is ridiculously difficult, but he will be in his 3rd year. I would love to see 9 wins. If he does that with the 2024 schedule... he would certainly earn another year. But that's is a huge ask and it will come down to winning all the games we normally win and then some. Winning all of our home games will be a challenge too. Ole Miss stocked up on NIL mercenaries and is loaded for bear. We'd need a miracle to beat them... even in The Swamp. I wonder how much SOS knows about the NIL and if Napier really has that much control over the details... One thing's for sure the NIL dropped the ball late on some out of state recruits, and in hindsight, Napier should of had some kind of get together with this recruits and their families in Gainesville as close to signing day as possible. We should ditch the stadium seat deletes in The Swamp and use some of that $400 or $500 million to buy some quality recruits.
Point taken 015. But SOS has spoken and it’s hit the media, so he can’t take it back. Two takeaways from his comments are the number of people on the staff, and the NIL money being given to Lagway. I don’t think the fans have ever been given an explanation of what all those people do. Are we owed an explanation? Probably not, but certainly Spurrier didn’t have all those folks when he was head coach. It’s mirroring the structure at Bama for all I can tell and Napier sold the structure to Strickland when he was hired. Are all those people contributing to winning?? As for NIL…well, what’s the going rate for a top flight HS QB? With Rashada we thought it was 13mil. If we got Lagway for 1mil, should we consider that a bargain? We know the Rashada deal got us an NCAA investigation. Does SOS have insight to what UGA’s total NIL budget is? I’d say no, but he probably has a good idea what the NIL budget for the Gators is. I’m not dissing SOS, and have tremendous respect for him. Football has changed since his days. Things are vastly different, sadly. Things are managed differently. Oh yeah…then there’s that portal thing….
Right now the “army” has not produced a return on investment. Hard to justify all those positions without tangible results. I’ve been saying for a while that “the process” seems like a never-ending state of flux; the journey continues but there is no destination. We shall have answers this fall.
Don't know if anyone knows the concrete numbers but on a podcast before the superbowl one person inferred the gators had someone on the team that was set to make more than Brock Purdy.
I don't see any "ouch" in these comments. SOS is always honest. Sometimes painfully honest. He has concerns. Most of us have concerns. I'm sure Coach Napier has concerns as much as anyone and more than most. What I didn't see was any bashing from SOS. The army was a new concept at Florida and is being refined as they proceed. NIL has been the elephant in the room for the last several seasons and SOS is concerned about NIL too. He admitted it has completely changed the game (and in a couple of seasons I would add . . . so super-fast). Those already paying players had a huge head start in NIL. I'd say the LegHumpers have the best NIL because they were already paying players and because have one of the biggest NIL pots to throw around. They have totally sold out in Athens for football success . . . and we don't need to list the disgusting crimes they turn a blind eye to for sake of a football starter about to be drafted by the NFL. They go hand-in-glove. I think we're finding a balance in both.
This part. It's been frustrating listening to the sports media ignore what has been obvious regarding Georgia and Bama for so long. Regarding spurriers Comments, you make great point although I do think there is reason for concern and I wish spurrier wouldn't put this kind of fodder out into the atmosphere when we are getting pummeled with negative attention at every turn warranted or not.
Maybe if Spurrier would have had more staff, he wouldn't have failed with the Redskins or quit on the Cocks. He should have kept his comments private and talked to Napier directly. No reason to air this publicly.
Maybe not. We don’t know if his private words fell on deaf ears. For instance, I find it hard to believe no one has privately challenged Napier on his enduring decision to not have an on-field special teams coach and just hope that it works out.
We've had 3 consecutive losing seasons and it's a struggle to find something going anything other than a little bit better. We are way behind the elites. I'm good with sticking with Coach Napier for another year or two but, to me, things aren't looking super bright.
We are not mirroring Bama in terms of coaching staff. Sure we have numbers like them but they’d also have top flight guys. Weren’t their OCs Sark, Kiffin, BOB, etc? We have 3 OCs
